PLANET COASTER Player Creates ALIENS: THE RIDE

Thanks to the Disney and Fox deal, the day may come when Disneyland and Walt Disney World open up attractions based upon characters from their new sister studio. While Aliens seems like an unlikely addition to the family friendly theme parks, Disney actually acquired the rights to use the Xenomorphs two decades ago for an early incarnation of Disney World’s ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. Disney eventually scrapped those plans for something tamer, but that hasn’t stopped one fan from using Planet Coaster to create Aliens: The Ride, an elaborate attraction that looks like it would cost billions to make in real life.

Via Kotaku, Aliens: The Ride was made by YouTube user Hin Nya. Due to the technical limitations of Planet Coaster, the Xenomorphs in this video only have limited movement. But the recreation of the exomoon LV-426 and the journey through space are both visually impressive and oddly serene. This simulated ride really takes its time building towards the appearance of the Xenomorphs and lulls the virtual riders into a false sense of security. But when the <bleep> hits the fan, it’s “game over, man!”

Perhaps the most impressive part is the way that Hin Nya increases the tension late in the ride by making the colony self-destruct as the riders attempt to escape a very angry Xenomorph queen. Plus, it made good use of James Horner’s unforgettable score. We would have welcomed a few more jump scares, but this was a very enjoyable video.

What did you think about Aliens: The Ride? In the comment section no one can hear you scream…but we’d still like to know what you’re thinking!
