Adele Impersonator Sings ‘SkyMall’ Tribute on CONAN

This month, SkyMall, the in-flight catalog we all know and love, filed for bankruptcy. With the rise of Wi-Fi on flights and Smartphones no longer banned from use, the proprietor of strange and sometimes outrageous gadgets felt a major hit in sales. After 25 years of offering distractions, conversation starters, and some regrettable purchases to airplane passengers the world over, it should come as no surprise that some people would not take so kindly to the news of SkyMall’s demise. Comedian and television host Conan O’Brien is one of those people.

Earlier this week, Conan invited an Adele impersonator to explain how they both felt about the loss of the in-flight catalog giant, with a parody of Adele’s Academy Award-winning theme for recent James Bond film, Skyfall. She offered a message of forlorn sorrow and remembrance for iconic items from SkyMall, including the square fishbowl, the full-sized suit of armor, the world’s largest write-on map, the in-home MRI machine for cats, and the glow-in-the-dark toilet bowl seat. The song is truly a send-off worthy for that one magazine we all read strictly because it was free and we still had two hours left on our flight.

Witness the lament of Conan O’Brien and Definitely The Real Singer Adele in the video below. After that, head down to the comments section and leave your own eulogy for SkyMall or a memory of your favorite, most ridiculous gadget found in the catalog.

I had to lament the demise of SkyMall on a recent flight. It was certainly a hobby I always enjoyed. Looking up useless crap that I would never actually buy but the thought of people’s houses filled with these items was such a strange notion. Almost like looking into a parallel universe where dogs had steps to get on beds and garden gnomes of all shapes and sizes littered lawns across the suburbs.

I just took a flight and looked specifically for the SkyMall. I was so pissed when it wasn’t there. Some of my personal favorites were the wall to wall word search wallpaper and the… hovercraft? Apparently Hammacher Schlemmer was way ahead of the times.
