12 of Your Favorite Nintendo Characters Drawn as the Zodiac Signs

Ah, the Greek Zodiac. Some people live by their sign. Others couldn’t care less about any of it. But like it or not, the 12 signs of the zodiac have been used in art and culture for a long time now. Think you’ve seen all the zodiac incarnations you can take? Think again! Here are 12 Nintendo characters—mostly from the Super Smash Bros rooster—drawn in 2D and assigned to a particular corresponding sign. The images were created byJulia Lepetit, Head Illustrator of Dorkly. Check out the gallery below for all 12 individual photos.

As a proud Leo, I’m going to start with the sign of the lion. Cooking Mama is such a Leo (July 23 – August 22), fiery and determined to lead us in the kitchen and life. Next is Lucina from Fire Emblem as the analytical and critical Virgo (August 23 – September 22). The harmonious little Libra (September 23 – October 22) seen here is Isabelle from Animal Crossing. A triumphant Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) like Samus Aran can handle pretty much any challenge. Same with the adventurous F-Zero star Captain Falcon, assigned here as a Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21).

Capricorns (December 22 – January 19) like Legend of Zelda‘s own Princess Zelda are a bit more patient and quiet, unlike Earthbound‘s Ness who’s always on the run as an Aquarius (January 20 – February 18). Perhaps the saddest of these designs is Pisces (February 19 – March 20) with one of many departed Pikmin floating above its mournful family. Of course, the reigning Nintendo poster boy, Mario, is an enthusiastic Aries (March 21 – April 19). Good old dependable Link makes the cut as a loyal but stubborn Taurus (April 20 – May 20). The exploitative sign of Gemini (May 21 – June 20) had to go to the Ice Climbers, ’cause of obvious twin rules. And last but not least, Kirby is Cancer (June 21 – July 22), a compassionate and overall jolly fellow.
