The newest Star Wars film did not just seem to awaken everyone’s love for our favorite space opera, it seems to have brought a renewed interest and appreciation for the man responsible for all seven installments of the franchise’s scores, John Williams. Since the release of The Force Awakens, numerous and varied covers and tributes have been pouring in from all sorts of musicians to pay homage to a man responsible for some of the most famous and beloved cinematic compositions ever. That even includes people that weren’t alive for most of them.
This latest tribute comes from the young and supremely talented pianist Sara Arkell, also known as the Piano Gal. In it, she plays a medley of John Williams’ pieces from Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, ET, and of course, Star Wars.
Lest you think this is just a talented kid sitting at a piano, she not only made sure to wear costumes appropriate for each movie, but the video is filled with special effects to give it an even greater authenticity.
What’s truly incredible is that John Williams’ career has been so prolific that even this medley of some of his best known works isn’t anywhere near complete. You could reasonably argue that his Oscar winning Jaws theme is the single most recognizable piece of music in all of film, and two of his other five Oscars wins aren’t included in this tribute either, Fiddler on the Roof and Schindler’s List.
Few people have ever managed to have such an influence on both film and music as John Williams, and, as young Sara shows, that influence will last for a long, long time to come.
