You Made It Weird #34: Nikki Glaser

Nikki Glaser (Last Comic Standing, You Had To Be There podcast) is one of the best, funniest and most interesting comedians we’ve had on to make it weird. Good Lord, it gets weird. I’m not just saying that. This one goes some places that made Pete’s face all flushed. And we left it in. Because that’s what we do. Incredible episode. Please enjoy!

This episode is one of my new favorites. I love that Nikki’s perspectives in the sex talk were so refreshingly honest and, for lack of a better word, “normal” (to me at least)… it’s so common for female comics to be overly raunchy and honest in the oversharing sort of way, but it’s great to hear a relatable viewpoint that falls in the middle of prudish and superfreak.

Also – Rainforest Cafe – brilliant. Haha!

  2. MelJel says:

“When a girl is- the girl-version of hard down there.”
    Pete…. what even

  3. Magnus says:

I’m very slowly working my way through the archives, and I feel compelled to say that this was a really amazing episode. Made me reconsider some things I’ve been having trouble with.

    So thanks for that.

  4. pablo corn joe says:

hey pete……….YOU FUCKING HIT THAT SHIT!!

  5. Dooz says:

    JUST FUCK ALREADY!!!

    :D

First episode I heard, I’m in love with Pete. The honesty radiates through the earbuds and into my soul. Very happy I get to hear a bunch more of this wonderful treat from here unto eternity. Thanks for being cool.

  6. sybarite says:

Hey Pete, this is a great conversation. This is deep and funny stuff. Thanks and keep it up.

  7. Jon C. Forisha says:

That was amazing. I read the comments before the show and was excited to see how weird weird could get. You took it to new levels, Pete. Nicely done.

  8. Kate English says:

Pete, you rock! Just wanted to let you know that the episode of This American Life was retracted because Mike Daisy totally made the worst of his story up. Ira Glass was pissed. http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/460/retraction
And I really don’t know if there possibly enough comedian podcasts to fill my day…don’t quit!

  9. noriko says:

Great episode. You mentioned a Myq Kaplan episode that would have probably come out already. I hope you are holding it so you can add an addendum with those questions you wanted to ask!

  10. rhzunam says:

I just heard the podcast. It was great but I don’t get why people think they should date when they totally looked like friends unless it’s the type of person that thinks automatically of any male/female friendship as something romantic. Besides I would think Nikki Glaser would get tired of taking about Chelsea Peretti.

  11. Billy says:

    Fucking killed it.
Probably the best episode yet. It was even weirder than these insanely weird comments would lead you to believe. The Oedipal/Electra Complex talk plus Pete’s weird, half-assed, quasi proposition at the end was the perfect crescendo.

  12. Sarah says:

(OMG, so long..I tried to find an email address, I swear)

  13. Sarah says:

I apologize in advance for this way-too-long-to-be-blog-comment comment. First of, love the show, I discovered it via a mention on Extra Hot Great and it has turned me into a total comedy nerd.

    1. I am an English teacher in the economic wasteland of southern Europe, teaching English to immigrants who need to learn it in order to feed their kids and live a semi-stable life (not in the same universe of bad as the 13-year-old ipod slaves, but lots of downward spiral potential nonetheless).

I totally relate to your ‘inside baseball’ stuff. I think adult-ed type classes follow an arc similar to a comedy set–especially where a strong close is concerned. I love my students so much, and feel so personally invested in their success that the feeling after a great lesson where everyone’s engaged, confident and has obviously left the classroom with something they didn’t have before they arrived–I could seriously pirouette home. Ditto the onset of the sads for the opposite situation.

    2. I had no idea childless people could identify that change of focus from babying the husband to babying the baby that happens when a kid comes around. I hold out some hope that that returns once there are no longer kids in the house sucking every drop from our souls. Rewarding.

    3. You ain’t seen Oedipussy complex til’ you’ve seen it in Mediterranean lands where nobody moves out of mommy’s house until they are married. 99% of my conversations with my mother-in-law revolve around how beautiful, tall, brilliant and what a great provider my husband/her son is. It is excruciating. She looooves talking about how his shoes always look bad because he can never find his size here because his feet are so big. The day will come when she asks me about his oral sex skills, of this I am horrifically sure.

  14. Amanda says:

Thanks for sharing your relationship silver bullet with us, Pete. I’m absolutely going to make use of that in the future.

  15. Shane says:

Holy shit that was weird . . . . LOVED IT

  16. $weetrena says:

Thank you so much weirdo!!! Love ALL you do!

  17. Josh says:

Listening to this episode was a bit like being the third wheel in a threesome. “Hold the flashlight higher, Josh.” “Yeah, just keep holding that flashlight, Josh.”

Such a weird episode! Awesomely weird. Chris Hardwick might want to check if he got knocked up during his cameo. Seriously.

    Heh heh, “Hardwick”.

Keep on keeping it crispy Pete!

  18. James says:

It sounds like Native American’s souls are a thicker milkshake

  19. Rodrigo says:

Nikki Glaser never fails to make me laugh my ass off, this and her Walking the Room ep are delightful.

Also Pete please do the Mutant Season podcast!

  20. Benjamin Greninger says:

Great episode. Your podcast is better than therapy. To hear the different perspectives on sex and relationships that you bring up is helping me more than anything with my own issues. Thank you for making it wierd.

  21. Pete Holmes says:

Thanks everyone!! I told you it was one of my FAVs!!

  22. Ryan Alig says:

    ? not ! Whoops!

  23. Ryan Alig says:

Pete! Excellent ‘sode! How did you fuckers lay my own psyche bare with this! Slowly turning my skim to cream! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Don’t EVER stop!

  24. chucko55 says:

I know that there was a lot of weird sex talk in this episode, including some “I was late to start” talk. I’m new to these forums, but what would you say is waaay late to start having sex? I guarantee I’m above it (he said depressingly).

  25. Lester Focke says:

The comic folksinger Henry Phillips stars in this wry, poignant, smartly satirical comedy as himself, and puts himself into uneasy situations in which he doesn’t always come out as the hero. http://bit.ly/GDYGvu

  26. Julia Hays says:

Some of the things shared in this episode reminded me of an old psychology teacher of mine. Except for “What if your dad said it was okay?” That was pure Holmes!

  27. RobJ says:

Jesus fuck, i shouldn’t have listened to this. Sex Nerd Sandra… on steroids…. and shame. Man oh man.

Weird is what was made this episode.

  28. Jay says:

Really digging this Keeping it Crusty with Pat Helms podcast.

Lots of laughs and watching Pat go through what most of us went through in college is very fun. Frankly I still enjoy talking about that stuff many years later even though it seems no new ground is ever gained!

  29. Geoff says:

Congratulations for making it very weird this episode.

  30. Lauren says:

    Wha…………….t just happened?

I feel like both Freuds junk punched me while Durkheim the Nogoodnik just giggled. And then it was also hilarious. And your parent issues and semi-alcoholism made me feel better about my mild panic attacks and addictive personality. It got real weird. You had me feeling things, guys.

  31. I was the opening with the “Herpes/Slurpees” joke. =)

  32. Charles says:

You Hade To Be There To Make It Weird, yeah that’s a podcast title mash up, wanna fight about it?

Haven’t listen yet but how could it not be great…

  33. highwyre237 says:

I’m pretty sure it was malcom gladwell who said “the cold grey line of people that know neither victory nor defeat or something”

  34. mustradayonaisse says:

Here at You made it weird, we have hand guns.

    Thank you.

  35. A.J. says:

After re-reading my post I stand by my statement. I cannot abide this! Concerned hater: you, sir or madam are an oxymoron! When I hear two people I like connect, I immediately hope that they make babies together thus creating more people I like. If this is wrong then I don’t wanna be right! Make it WEIRD!!

  36. Concerned Hater Hater says:

I hope you don’t have to deal with people saying they “I hope you don’t have to deal with creepy commenters suggesting who you should date. Especially when they say ‘you went deep’ in all-caps.”. That would be weird.

  37. Concerned Hater says:

I hope you don’t have to deal with creepy commenters suggesting who you should date. Especially when they say “you went deep” in all-caps. Weirdo does not mean creepjob, AJ.

  38. A.J. says:

I hope you two date. Yin and Yang. Great freaking episode. I could listen to the two of you all day and never lose interest. YOU WENT DEEP!
