It starts with “To Me” – the world happens to me, I have no control. Then it goes to “By Me” – I happen to the world, I have control. Then…there are 2 more phases, but I don’t know if they ever get explained? Through me? Does anyone know? I’d really like to know. alby says: November 29, 2014 at 1:33 pm unlistenable scrutiny says: November 27, 2014 at 8:33 pm this is going to be the whitest podcast in the universlets do this Megan says: November 26, 2014 at 5:12 pm How many times did my friends and I say “That must be Nigel with the brie!” when we were in high school. ristretto says: November 25, 2014 at 6:52 am At some point, Mr. Cease explains that he has higher goals than becoming the next George Carlin. In the same spirit, my dog just informed me that he has given up on running for president. ristretto says: November 25, 2014 at 6:50 am All you need to know about Kyle Cease is in that photo above. He unironically wears a baseball cap backwards. Stuff like this may not matter, but it does communicate. Cease also communicates in the interview, but the message is never quite what he intends it to be. Here’s a deeply self absorbed person who hasn’t learned the first thing about human decency. Which is that whatever you may think you’ve discovered about yourself, your job, or life in general, must not be turned into a rule you expect others to live by. He claims to have learned that lesson after his “bootcamp” fiasco. But he has just covered himself in a thicker layer of bullshit. Several times, he says something like “The worst thing that ever happened to me was the best thing that ever happened to me”. This is a person who doesn’t have the common politeness to find out what others are all about. Even Pete Holmes, Mr. Sunny Happy, can hardly keep himself from yawning. That’s a sign that you find yourself in the presence of a soul sucking egomaniac, a narcissistic little dweeb and a waste of everybody’s time. Paddling new age-y slogans is not a sin. Being this unenlightened about it …is. It breaks my heart that he seems to be able to find audiences. There was no build or flow to other topics, and I (although I didn’t finish), only know one new thing about Kyle: that he likes the smell of his own farts. Tara Campbell says: November 18, 2014 at 9:44 am Mind.Blown. That’s going to take another listen. MKF says: November 15, 2014 at 3:21 pm One of my favorite episodes! I’d like to listen again. I liked his tips about meditating in the morning and not comparing ourselves to other through social media first thing in the a.m. He was funny and insightful. Very good!! Poopines says: November 15, 2014 at 10:28 am I have a new fat lady super power. Just the thought of me standing outside of a single toilet waiting for Kyle Cease to take a shit can stop Kyle Cease from shitting. YoYo says: November 14, 2014 at 8:58 pm I wish Pete would have been more turned on in this episode. He was clearly falling asleep and seemed to refuse to call out Kyle about some of his more bizarre beliefs. I think that was probably because Pete was having a hard time paying attention due to a combination of being tired and Kyle being insanely scatterbrained. I wish Pete could give this podcast another go. tobin says: November 14, 2014 at 1:52 pm oh the bliss! the joy! cleaning house for the first time at age 37… thedailykirk says: November 14, 2014 at 7:26 am In the last week I listened to the Orny Adams podcast and then watched the movie Comedian again. It made me so sad and uncomfortable. I do standup and would love to “make it” (whatever that means) one day, but watching Orny tear himself apart from within was beyond depressing. I started to wonder if it was possible to make it to a higher level of success without that whole gaping wound inside one’s self thing he had going. But Kyle’s episode kind of assuaged that fear. I think Kyle is still on a journey but his words were lovely and comforting and such a great counterpoint to the blind ambition for recognition upon which so many comics operate. Andrew says: November 13, 2014 at 3:34 pm Mornings involve sleepiness, car frozen-ness, and work stress. Having a new YMIW helps me make it through, so thank you Pete. Really quintessential episode here; can’t get enough. DiHard11 says: November 13, 2014 at 1:17 pm Hey Pete! I’ll be seeing you when you play at the Dice in a couple of weeks. I’m excited. I loved this episode!! I needed and wanted it. It was the perfect episode for what I’m thinking about. It is funny how life works sometimes. Cor says: November 13, 2014 at 12:57 pm painful to listen when the guest cannot keep to one train of thought for more than a minute Andrew says: November 14, 2014 at 9:40 am Yeah, but isn’t there some value in being honest about how your mind works? It’s hard to listen to but I also think it’s important to acknowledge a healthy level of self-awareness. Al says: November 13, 2014 at 11:49 am God, that was exhausting. Does Kyle ever stop talking about himself? Darin says: November 16, 2014 at 11:50 pm Um, you new here? What the hell did you expect exactly from a one-on-one interview dummy? Wtf? Joe says: November 13, 2014 at 9:19 am Pete! Saw on Mulaney! Best Part of the episode! Becky Suttle says: November 13, 2014 at 7:20 am I would really like to hear more conversations with the two of you. This episode is why I follow this podcast. PS Pete I hope that you make a re-occurrence Mulaney, it is a perfect part for you. Rob says: November 13, 2014 at 12:53 am Man I haven’t really enjoyed this podcast lately…I love Pete and the older episodes but it seems like every episode now is 90% lame conversations about self-help spiritual guru bullshit.
