If you haven’t purchased an Xbox One yet, now might be the time to empty those piggy banks, because you can officially nab the system for as low as $299! The good news is that existing bundles (of which there are many) are also $50 cheaper. The official Xbox site has this deal lasting “for a limited time,” so you’ll want to act fast if you’ve been looking to finally upgrade. On the surface, this looks like Microsoft is trying to move hardware since they’re lagging behind on sales against their greatest competitors (PS4 has sold 40 million units), but isn’t the timing a bit peculiar?
Dropping the price only weeks ahead of E3 may be an indicator that all the rumors about the mega-company revealing new hardware at the event are indeed true.
According to Kotaku, we are going to see two new versions of the Xbox One in the next couple of years. The first one, set to launch this year, will be a smaller version of the One that’s available now, but will include a 2 TB hard drive. Great news for those who hate the old-school VCR look of the current hardware. The second one, which is reportedly slated for a 2017 release, will actually be a premium device with a more powerful GPU. It will technically work with the Oculus Rift, so Microsoft is looking for a partnership with Oculus. Makes sense once you consider PlayStation will have their own VR headset by the end of the year.
All will be revealed soon enough, but where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.
Do you expect Microsoft to reveal two new pieces of hardware? Do the rumored specs make you want to wait on getting an Xbox One? If the rumors are indeed true, do you like what Microsoft is doing with the Xbox division? If you don’t already have a One, does the price drop sell you on the hardware?
