If you have ever seen Takashi Miike’s previous works, like Ichi the Killer or 13 Assassins, you know that he likes throwing caution to the wind. If he wants to see something in his movies, no matter how violent or disturbing it may be, he usually puts it in there. With his new film Yakuza Apocalypse, it seems that he wanted to see, well, EVERYTHING.
The red band trailer shown above starts off as a Yakuza drama about “honor” and “becoming a man.” Then the priest with the magic gun arrives and things take an insane turn. A member of the Yakuza drinks his boss’ blood and is turned into a vampire. Then we get a montage of crazy fights scenes and explosions in outer space. If by this point you are not already on board, the last 10 seconds of this trailer will definitely reel you in, as someone dressed up as a frog mascot takes out 5 people all by themselves. The frog then looks into the camera and its fake eyes turn red. So to recap: a Yakuza war, a Vampire Yakuza boss, planets exploding, and a possessed frog creature that knows martial arts. If it takes more than that to at least make you curious, there’s really not much else left to say.
Yakuza Apocalypse will be released in the US October 9, 2015.
