WIN A Copy of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s DON JON

WIN A Copy of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s DON JON

He’s just been announced as the director and star of the upcoming Sandman graphic novel adaptation, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt is no stranger to being in front of AND behind the camera. This year saw the release of the talented multihyphenate’s screenwriting-directing debut, Don Jon, a film that looks at the ridiculousness of love, sex, dating, and the media. Gordon-Levitt’s impressive first feature is on a number of critics’ top tens and has been nominated for Best Screenplay at the Independent Spirit Awards.

The film follows Jon (Gordon-Levitt), an image-conscious porn-watcher from New Jersey who meets a girl (Scarlett Johansson) who’s seen way too many Hollywood romantic comedies. Each of them has a skewed idea of what a relationship would be like, but it’ll take finding common ground for them to truly find intimacy and happiness. The cast also includes Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, Glenne Headley, and Brie Larson.

If you’d like to be one of two winners of this acclaimed independent film from one of Hollywood’s smartest people, all you have to do is have a valid email address and tell us in the comments below which Joseph Gordon-Levitt performance is your favorite and why. That’s it! It’s as simple as pie. Give yourself this Christmas present; you’ve earned it. You’ve only got until midnight on Tuesday, December 31st, or your chances will be as gone as 2013. But, look on the bright side, if you miss out, that’s also the day the Don Jon Blu-ray and DVD come out.

  1. Chris says:

Does TV count? Because if so, Third Rock. He was a kid playing an adult in a kid’s body, and did a bang-up job.

  2. Kate says:

10 Things I hate about you is probably my favourite, but his best that I’ve seen is definitely 50/50.

  3. Blake Blont says:

I wold have to go with either 50/50 or Mysterious Skin. 50/50 managed to make me laugh and cry because of how unbelievably touching it is. Mysterious Skin is one of the most underrated performances of any actor, his portrayal of a gay teen prostitute is beautiful.

  4. Christian says:

It’s gotta be 50/50. That performance not only further solidified his ability to carry a film as a leading man, but also showcased some of the most tender emotional moments of his career. His honesty, sincerity, and vulnerability turned what was already a powerful story into a beautiful, uplifting experience. He also demonstrated the remarkable ability to turn a scene from comedic to tragic with a simple facial expression or change of tone. There are few films that can consistently make me both laugh and cry, but 50/50 is one of them – no small thanks to JGL.

  5. Tiffany says:

Mine’s will always be 10 things I hate about you because I saw it in the movie theaters for my birthday.

  6. Steven says:

His portrayal of the protagonist in 500 Days of Summer is my favorite role JGL has done. I see many elements of my own personality in that character. And the ending has always been one I look to for motivation to take that leap. The film’s overall message of overcoming despair, despite the emotional agony of unrequited love was intimated excellently via JGL’s acting ability.

  7. LC says:

The Lookout is a great movie.

  8. Joseph says:

50/50 wins, hands down. He brought the perfect balance between humor and drama. Just brilliant <3

  9. Clay says:

Guys, my christmas evolves access to screeners and I’ve got to say this movies was fantastic. Just watched it a few hours ago. So dope. I’d say this movie and Adaptation are the perfect blend of movies to explain male masturbation. Probably.. I dunno, but It is great. Good story, solid cast, great acting, and boner worthy for both guys and girls.

  10. Christina Sp says:

There are so many great performances to choose from, but I think I have to go with Manic. I loved the unpredictability and angst in his character, Lyle.

  11. Diana says:

3rd Rock from the Sun. I rewatched it a few years ago, and it completely holds up.

  12. Sam K says:

He was so amazing in 500 Days of Summer. It was so cool and intircate. He’s amazing. And super attractive.

  13. Julie Raflo says:

I really liked him in Inception because in a cool movie, in a kick ass cast, I think he stole the show in his scenes

  14. Cody says:

I’m going to have to say Angels in the Outfield b/c I watched the VHS copy of that film way too much when I was growing up.

  15. Jessica Sommers says:

There are so many great ones, but I would have to say The funniest would be the Lip-Sync Off with Jimmy Fallon. Man did Joe bust out his inner Nikki Minaj. Epic!!

  16. Sean Carlson says:

Gotta go with Hesher. It wasn’t a huge movie commercially, but I thought he really nailed the character and it showed some real range from him.

  17. Ani M. says:

Joe’s work in Mysterious Skin has stuck with me through every one of his performances that came after. I believe it was the first time audiences saw him portray a complex character, not one who could easily be defined as “the good guy,” “the bad guy,” “the nerd,” “the funny guy,” or any other simple title. He really embodied that role and made you fall in love with the rest of the project because of it, Mysterious Skin having been an interesting story all on its own. I feel like it paved a way for fantastic opportunities, bringing out other impressive performances in Brick, 500 Days, Hesher, 50/50, and (obviously) Don Jon!

  18. Shari Pfeffer says:

Angels in the Outfield because it was the first movie I ever saw Joe in and fell in love with him!!

  19. JK Wall says:

Definitely Brick, it was such a unique and amazing movie and he was the perfect level of enigmatic and talented for the role.

  20. Erika Kent says:

500 days of summer…it just feels so optimistic!

  21. Nathan George says:

My favorite would totally be 500 days of summer, Im a huge 3rd rock from the sun fan!! but I mean that movie totally made me tear up so bad! haha

  22. LeilaE says:

Brick. Film noir Teen drama, played it wonderfully dark, subtle and deep.

  23. Brad says:

Third Rock from the Sun, without question. Very entertaining artist from the start.

  24. Senia says:

It’s really hard to say, but if I have to choose I would say that Brick is my all time my favorite, in fact its one of my favorite movies ever. I love that it has the air of an old detective novel and the gritty underworld that they encaptured left me in movie-goer awe. I feel that its an incredibly creative film and Joseph Gordon Levitt played the part perfectly(as did the whole cast) Its one those hidden gems. I highly recommend it.

  25. Sarah Grace says:

Hesher was my favorite film. He just rocked it with those tattoos and IDGAF attitude. Loved it!!

  26. NeuroMan42 says:

500 Days of Summer… one of the ONLY realistic films about relationships ever made.

  27. Andrew Harlan says:

For me it has to be Manic. He carried a wild kind of tenacity that was fueled by angst and a soul bent on immolation. Even now, when I watch that film, I’m sure the delinquent Lyle could beat the hell from me to the sounds of slayer.

  28. Allison says:

I tend to like everything he is in, but I will always love him in 3rd Rock from the Sun.

  29. Lisa says:

Angels in the Outfield since I had the biggest crush on him back in the day.

  30. Scott says:

    JGL in 50/50.

  31. Amanda says:

    All of them….

Okay, okay… If I can pick only one its probably his roll in 50/50.

  32. Breanna says:

Tommy from 3rd Rock from the Sun. Amazing actor from the start.

  33. Craig says:

He was an incredibly Bruce Willis-y young Bruce Willis in Looper

  34. Soren Hough says:

My favorite Joseph Gordon-Levitt performance is definitely The Lookout. Playing a vulnerable, memory-challenged character while holding your own against the estimable Jeff Daniels is a feat in and of itself.

  35. Rob Roan says:

Best performance?! His lip syncing & dance routine on the Jimmy Fallon show against Stephen Merchant!

  36. Luis Rede says:

I thought he was great in Looper and also in 50/50. He is a really good actor, can’t wait to see him in Sandman!

  37. Daniella says:

I loved him in 500 Days of Summer.

  38. Sarah says:

Tough to pick just one, he’s been in a ton of great things, but I’d have to go with 50/50. That movie was terrific and he was amazing in it.

  39. Marc'us Harrison says:

It would have to be Inception, because his character is very smooth – to the point he steals a kiss with a smile from Ellen Page. Plus the entire time you’re watching the zero gravity scene you’re on the edge of your seat!

  40. Miles Berens says:

i would say 50/50 because it was touching but also funny.

  41. hj says:

500 Days of Summer had it all – drama, comedy, romance and a dance number!

  42. Mason says:

His best performance is in Brick. He was a subtle yet powerful character.

  43. grga says:

    500 days od summer

  44. Petra Zamora says:

I was trying to think of just one but honestly I think he does great with all his characters.

  45. Tristan Dorrell says:

50/50 is probably one of the best performances I’ve seen in any movie.

  46. Stacy Lunzer says:

I loved his Magic Mike dance on SNL. Why? I’m a woman. Not that only women would enjoy it… I would love to see Chris Hardwick do a sexy dance too

  47. Josh Waite says:

Looper was an amazing performance. I couldn’t get over the fact that he played a young Bruce Willis so well.

  48. Heather Wrzesinski says:

The Lookout because it was when I knew he would be a serious actor and stick around for many more years

  49. Ashley Nash says:

My favorite is 10 Things I Hate About You

  50. Keith Evans says:

I am going to go classic Joseph Gordon-Levitt and say Third Rock from the Sun. He was great in that show.
