As you’ve no doubt seen at this point, a lady who bought herself a Chewbacca mask for her birthday and laughed with joy for many minutes in her car became the feel-good internet sensation of the weekend. There’s just something undeniably delightful about how much happiness buying a plastic mask that makes Chewbacca noises brings to this woman’s life. And, rightfully, the internet took notice and her Facebook video racked up over 3 million views. Never one to miss a trend, James Corden had Chewbacca Mom guest on The Late Late Show on Monday, with J.J. Abrams in tow.
The video, which you can see below, begins by mimicking the famous video, but then cuts to a wider angle to show Corden in the passenger seat of the van, and then Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams pops up to join the discussion of whether the mask actually sounds like Chewie (I think it does for sure). By the end of the video, all three are wearing the mask and laughing like drains, to use a very old-timey term I don’t understand.
I have to admit, when I first saw the video show up, I rolled my eyes at what seemed to be a shameless co-opting of an internet phenomenon, but it’s impossible to watch anything Chewbacca Mom does without laughing along, and seeing Corden and Abrams so uproariously join in is just great. I love it, and I’m pretty sure you will too. The power of Chewbacca and laughter cannot be beaten.
