What That LEAKED DEADPOOL Clip Means for the Movie!

Alright, who’s sick of hearing about Comic-Con? It’s time we change the subject, right? Well, how about superhero movies that might never get made? That’d be a change. More or less.

On today’s Nerdist News, we’re blowin’ up the latest major movie leak – about two minutes of Deadpool test footage from attached director and Blur Studios head Tim Miller! It’s got action, it’s got comedy, it’s got a completely shattered fourth wall. In other words, it’s Deadpool! Hear our thoughts on what this leak could mean for the future of the flick, whether it’s on the right track, and whether we’d all be better off if the Merc with the Mouth returned to Marvel.

Enjoy today’s show, come on back for another serving tomorrow, and let us know in the comments below whether you think Ryan Reynolds is still the best man to take on the role of Wade Wilson!

Update: Blur Studios uploaded a HD version of the test footage to their official website.

  1. Marissa says:

Give me Ryan Reynolds as deadpool with hints of the avengers. i want it to be about deadpool. not deadpool and others. yes, we can show him messing with so many heroes because who wouldn’t wanna see that. but i want it to focus on deadpool alone. And deadpool does not do PG-13

  2. mike says:

I think a standalone Deadpool movie featuring Cable would be very, very interesting.  That leaked clip nailed Deadpool pretty darn well.  Fox needs to not screw up the character like they did in X-Men Origins.

  3. JohnM says:

The leaked footage was awesome, and sexy turquoise/ teal pants

  4. Darien Keenan says:

    Vote Pedro for Deadpool!

  5. Noah says:

Hell yeah he did awesome on the last blade can’t wait to watch this only without the PGA rating that will fracken suck. ..

  6. Spoiler alert!!!Just got done watching gardians of the galaxy. Howard the ducks in the end credits. Pretty cool!! And Cosmo the dog. A well known fact for the deadpool comic fans. Cosmo is deadpools dog given to him as a gift by Howard the duck. So they might be shareing a movie together pretty cool huh!!

  7. Erin says:

I don’t see why they should tone down the R rating. I mean, have you read the comics? Deadpool was anything but kid friendly…at least most of the time.

  8. George says:

I would prefer to see Deadpool handled in the way the test footage has shown, i’ve seen both versions of the test footage – high and low quality and I gotta say, even if fox only went with a cgi animated with reynolds doing vo work it would kick ass. That said, I’d rather NOT let the whedons get to it when the script as is garners raves from you guys and – for as much as I have seen – BLOWS MY FRIKKIN’ MIND!

  9. Steffen says:

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool? HELL yes! If they put ANYONE else in that role, I won’t even waste my time going. . .

  10. Tj Shields says:

I honestly would love for Ryan Reynolds to play as Wade Wilson. The problem is can he handle the physicality of playing the role? He isn’t the same guy he was back for Origins Wolverine. And considering the kind of stuff Deadpool does, can Ryan even do it? I believe he can, but that doesn’t mean he can. Honestly, I fear that Fox is going to screw this up and really butcher the character. Honestly the Execs don’t get the punch-line of Deadpool and they never will. They aren’t open enough to understand why people want this insanity made into a film. They see what happened with the video game and give up. Sad really because I LOVED the game. But I’m just a fan.

    • Pyrobob says:

Yeah, but as far as physicality goes, it doesn’t matter. Sean Conner could “play” Deadpool, because whichever actor actually plays him will, for all intents and purposes, be a voice actor to Deadpool’s full face-covering mask. So really, you just need someone that can deliver comedic lines, along w a good stuntman and some CGI, your main actor would rarely if ever have to even put on the suit.

    • Dude says:

Apparently it was Ryan in mocap suit doing all that

  11. Sophie says:

Ryan Reynolds is the perfect Deadpool seriously, this needs to happen, keep it edgy and fun, if that means keeping it R-rated, well that’s something fresh, since super hero flicks have always been pretty family friendly, it’d be great to see something, that’s pretty uncut.

  12. We’ve only been waiting on a Deadpool movie for, like, 20 years. No biggie. >.>

Also: LONI LOVE FOR EMILY PRESTON!

  13. eddy says:

Looks like Next Gen gaming to me

  14. scoopHD says:

    How about Bruce Campbell

  15. J-Dog says:

    Nathan Fillion for Deadpool!

  16. Tausif Khan says:

Deadpool might make a great live action/CG show on FX…

  17. Jozzy says:

I have been waiting for this for soooo long. They F**KED UP so bad on his Character in Wolverine Movie. And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make it an R rating. DeadPool is not for Kids PERIOD. He was never meant for Kids and Family to enjoy. If they dumb this down to a pg-13 (which I’m sure they will) I am going to be very disappointed. I’m sure the movie will be awesome either way as long as it fallows along with that leaked footage. but man This has to be and R-Rating and Screw the Marvel Heroes….. Oh and through in a Harley Quinn Cameo :D  (wishful thinking)

  18. j says:

of course there will be an R rating. there is no way it would be any good otherwise. people will still go regardless.

  19. The new pants are hot. I don’t know if I have the capacity to care about a Deadpool movie anymore, especially if Fox is making it. Might as well shelf it until people forget then make it.

  20. Blur just released the test trailer

  21. Julie says:

Yes! Ryan Renolds is perfect for the Merc with a mouth! Pleaaasee make this movie!!!

  22. Jimminey cricket says:

Please don’t castrate the Merk with a Mouth, he’s been through enough already. Give us an R rated raunch fest filled with Deadpoolian references to boobs and tacos…. oh and killing.

  23. Phillip says:

So when can we the public non able to go to comic con see the teasers

  24. Revil Fox says:

    I love Jessica and all…but I miss CM Punk…

  25. Darksky says:

Make the Deadpool movie for the love of all things holy that bounce and or smell like tacos !!!!

  26. Emma says:

Ryan Reynolds is as perfect to play Deadpool as Morgan Freeman is to play god. Just destined to play the role.

  27. Zackary Dean says:

    Short answer; yes, but also…
A: if you’re complaining about Reynolds being annoying, you’re also missing the point. B: Reynolds was not even the fail pool from the end of the origins movie that was just a stuntman. C: Yes there should be a Cable team up but baby steps, remember what they did to the Phenix.

  28. jeff says:

    yes more dead pool

  29. Fox should lose all rights to Deadpool after X-Men Origins:Wolverine.  Only Ryan Reynolds for me.

  30. James says:

Milles Teller need to be deadpool

  31. Nobody says:

Ryan is the only actor I know that has the mouth to play the role. He fits his personality perfect. Anyone who disagrees is in my opinion also saying that Hugh Jackman isn’t the only person who can fil the role of Wolverine.

    • Doddy Bigital says:

Wow… Hugh Jackman was NOT good casting for Wolverine. Wolverine isn’t Batman. Should have been somebody scrappier and less handsome. At least they’ve finally learned how to write him with Days of Future Past, but still, far from the “only person” who can fill the role.

    • Angus says:

Hugh Jackman is not right for Wolverine and if you think he is then you know NOTHING about the comic book character Wolverine.  The perfect choice would have been Glenn Danzig and they approached him before the first X-Men movie was made but he had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts.  Glenn is the right height, the right build, and is truly a Wolverine fan from back in the 80s.  I know… I met him at San Diego Comic Con back in 1985 and when I met him he was buying Wolverine comics!

  32. NEGATRON says:

No to Ryan Reynolds, you’ve had two shots at being a superhero and both were super underwhelming. Time for someone new.

  33. Butt0nskill says:

“A sort of buddy comedy with the X-Men’s Colossus.”  Wat?  CABLE!  Give us Cable and Deadpool!  Why Colossus?  That’s like trying to sell me Reese’s Almond Butter Cups.

  34. Deadpool NEEDS a R rating.

  35. Dan says:

It can be RR and RR only. I can’t find the exact interview right now, but I remember years ago when Blade Trinity was about to be released, RR said in an interview that he’d based a lot of the on-screen persona of Hannibal on Deadpool, and if you go back and watch Blade Trinity with that in mind, you’ll have to agree that he’s perfect for the role of Wade

  36. doop says:

I like the footage, but Ryan voice is fucking annoying, if they alter his voice a little deeper then I say yes to it.

  37. Mark S says:

While Ryan Reynolds seems born for the role, I’d like to submit Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse from True Blood) as a possible 2nd choice.  Buff, fightin’ skills, great comedic timing, and fantastic facial expressions.  Which may seem moot if he wears a mask all the time but 1) if it’s practical, a more expressive face will show through the mask more 2) if it’s CG, there’s plenty to map.

    • Butt0nskill says:

That’s.. That’s not a bad suggestion actually.  I’m not a huge fan of True Blood, but what I have seen of him seems like he could make a reasonable substitute.

  38. Chili says:

Yes, Ryan Reynolds. Yes, stand-alone. Yes, R-Rated. MAKE THIS A THING RIGHT MEOW!

  39. Ryan Reynolds has the character down to a T. I don’t think anyone else should be considered. As a matter of fact when I saw him in the Green Lantern (a casting I pissed about) all I could hear and think was Deadpool.

  40. Brian says:

Ryan Reynolds is still the man.

  41. Joe says:

Ryan Reynolds. Yes. Stand-alone, hard-R Deadpool movie. Yes. Jessica Chobot’s pants. Oh hell yes!!!

  42. While it looks pretty cool, the scene in question is obviously just a cut scene for a video game, not a feature film.

  43. Matt says:

man, I just sold half of my Deadpool comics. But I would love to see this version of him in a movie.

  44. Abhishek says:

This was the role Ryan Reynolds was born to play. I loved the test footage and would pay good money to watch a full length movie. Just don’t mix in any of the Fox X-Men continuity crap.

  45. Ryan Reynolds can still do it. He’s got the whole breaking the fourth wall. Lets not minimize the fact that he wants to do it.

  46. RJ says:

    Yes RYAN Reynolds only

    • Dano says:

Yeah. I agree. I still think he’s the best choice for the role. What happened in Origins wasn’t his fault.
