It’s a new year, which means it’s time for New Year’s resolutions that you absolutely must keep; no wavering, no matter what. And if your resolution was to eat all the french fries, cheese, and gravy in any way you can, you’re in luck! The Canadian specialty poutine is on an upswing and becoming so popular that chefs are coming up with different innovative ways to get this cheese curd-laden dish into your fry hole. (Editor’s Note: Ew.)
Poutines are cheesy comfort, a gravy soaked Valhalla–basically heaven in a paper tray, but portable? Not so much. To put it another way, we’re too lazy for forks. So what’s a fried potato gravy-loving gal supposed to do? The solution is as obvious as shaking a Canadian Magic-8 Ball: food mash-up, eh?
Here at Nerdist, our favored non-utensil way of food consumption is always via burrito. Now the poutine and burrito have become one with the invention of the “poutito.” Truth be told, the poutine burrito was invented four years ago but Block 16’s chefs in Nebraska brought the idea down from the north and reinvented it for the States. Anything wrapped in a tortilla is pure magic and a poutine interior is no exception.
Not a burrito fan? First of all, get out. Second of all, come back because I have another option for you: poutine pizza! Everyone loves pizza, and this base of round dough plus the already given cheese provides the perfect vehicle for your chips and gravy.
Poutine burritos and poutine pizzas… we’re living in the best of times! Viva la poutine!
