Yes! The site got a refresh. Mainly, I’m sick of looking at a blog. I feel like we’ve moved beyond that. As the multi-headed mutant that is Nerdist Industries has continued to grow over the last few years, it seemed appropriate to give it more of a digital magazine feel. We have many wonderful contributors and podcasters now, and I wanted to represent them all fairly.

In the coming weeks and months there will be many exciting announcements from NI so I wanted an online home that I didn’t wag my finger at everyday while going, “Why aren’t you SNAZZIER?!” If change is like poison to you, then feel free to click “FULL VIEW” in the top right corner of the page to return to blog-land. Otherwise, explore the new podcast page with our full menu of shows! Play the most recent Nerdist podcast at the top of the page! See live performance dates in list and calendar view!

There may be little glitches here and there (everything is new!), so you can let us know at the bottom of the page if something isn’t working right. I really want your experience on the site to be informative, fluid and purty to look at. Thanks for sticking with us as spread our nerd wings a little further!

I <3 U,

PS – Double thank-yous to Chrises Glass and Cantey.

on the adriod version of the podcast app. where does the file download to. so i can listen to it on google play.

  2. Cody says:

Yeah I can’t download the Podcast anymore on my android phone either. I’m pretty bummed need a fix ASAP

  3. Brandon M says:

Heya. I can’t download the mp3’s onto my android phone. When I click on the link to save the file it doesn’t give me the option to save the link, just to download a copy of the arrow image.

  4. Blaine Kehl says:

    Ooo! Shiny!

  5. Vince P says:

I just want to thank you for all the great content you’re producing and look forward to your future endeavors. I have been in school for the last two years wrapping my 40+ year old brain around web dev and coding and I don’t think I could have made it without the podcast.

I have no negative comments about the new website, sorry.

  6. Gordon says:

I do not like the new layout. Too busy. This many headed beast hearder deifying Hardwick is a snooze. And the page doesn’t load well.

I’m in your corner, but these are honest criticisms. If you want your thing to be more inclusive, Chris, get your face out of it. Every page is bookended by you… enough šŸ˜€

  7. Tony V. says:

Love the new site guys! Just one glitch I found:

The site works fine on my home PC using Chrome. However, it seems the formatting is a bit off on Android phones. The podcast streaming bar/timeline thing seems to overlap just enough to the right side making it impossible to click the download button. This seems to be the case with all podcasts, as i ran into the same issue trying to grab the latest Sex Nerd Sandra episode. I tried it on my Atrix and a few friends Droid phones. All the same problem. The only download button I am able to click is the latest Nerdist episode at the top right corner of the site. Spacing is good there.

  8. Gary Bravender says:

Site looks great! I don’t quite understand the difference between grid and full view when I clicked on them they look the same. Using chrome browser today .maybe looks different w/IE?

  9. Vincent S says:

Thanks for the fix Nerdist Industries! The site looks good now (on IE).

  10. Taylor says:

Looks great Chris. (still wish the post box said “Leave a Quemment” but still awesome nonetheless.) Props to whoever picked the graph paper background. We engineers salute you.

  11. steve white says:

the grid makes it hard to read, you need to put something plain behind the writing, font is too stretched tall.

  12. stevewhite says:

its a little hard to read

  13. Becky says:

I wish you could have a search your for your city on the live tab. I would LOVE to see you in St. Louis sometime soon but never see my city listed. St. Louis is a great nerdy city. We would love to have you!

  14. thecrazyamerican says:

i did not know if i would like the change, but it is really nice and easy to use.

Hope the nerdist pilot is picked up. i have no cable where i live so i was not able to watch but i am diligently trying to find it on line.

  15. Looks awesome, but a few nitpicky things.

    1. On posts, there isn’t enough space between the header photo and the paragraph text.
    2. In grid view, the right-most post has paragraph text cut off.

I know it isn’t my place, but the web design nerd in me is screaming!

  16. Marcus says:

Wow! The new site looks amazing, I love the new layout. I agree, the old ‘blog’ format was getting a little cramped for all the different stuff the Nerdist brand has been doing and creating. It’s been great to see Nerdist expand so much within a year and a half.

  17. Dean says:

That said, I’d like to second Ruben’s question about whether there’ll be a mobile site in the future.

  18. Robin Burks says:

In some browsers, the embedded text is not going to look very good. Embeddable text is pretty cool, but it doesn’t read very well a lot of times. I’d suggest sticking with a web-safe font for the main content of the site. That’s a general usability rule of thumb.

And I’m not just saying that. One of my day jobs is as web developer!

  19. Dean says:

I like it, it looks like a broadsheet newspaper but on my computer. Classy.

  20. SlimCharles says:

    Looks good!

Have you maybe considered adding a message boards or something? I’m not really sure if that would be good idea, but you certainly have big enough number of listeners/readers to try something like that.

  21. Ryan says:

*Me five minutes ago* “Hmm, I think I’m gonna see if there’s a new podcast out today.”
    *Goes to* “WHAT THE BALLS!”

  22. Big Jon says:

Hey, I love it. Great idea. My only note would be technical. IF the sites still running on WP then get some caching going. It’s got a pretty slow load for such a popular site (even on my super duper fancy fast FiOS). Other than that, DIG IT.

  23. Amy Osterholm says:

Looks great and super SNAZZY! Where is the Doctor Who category, though?

  24. Kelly Black says:

Love your podcast and the new look of your site! Keeping things fresh and innovative is the right approach.

  25. Ricardo says:

In chrome, the text looks almost fuzzy.

  26. adela says:

Or I’m a bit of a luddite and that’s the RSS feed button. Opps! In which case, volume control?

  27. Adam says:

    It looks great, nice job.

  28. adela says:

I’m having trouble with the volume buttons when listening to the Podcasts on the page; fyi I’m using Google Chrome. Specifically I was trying to listen to ‘You Made it Weird’ but when I tested it with another podcast the issue persisted. When I click on the volume button it either just reloads the page or I get a page o’ code. Eventually I just had to go get the episode through iTunes.

Other then that, love the new look!

  29. Riff Millar says:

Holy crapdoodles, the new digs are gorgeous. Well bowled, sir.

  30. PapaFrita says:

Not sure how I feel about all the text being bold. It steals the thunder of anything that actually IS in bold.

  31. Eric says:

I have to mention the IE problem, too. I know web designers (myself included) would like it to either conform or die, but a site as valuable as yours is to my daily surfing should be usable on IE. Otherwise it looks great.

  32. Tzvi says:

    Fuck yeah.

  33. EWSentinel says:

My only wish (kind of like the Make-A-Wish Foundation for Nerdist) is that I can have some “easy” way to tell who was the latest podcast(s) to post (YOU HAVE SO MANY NOW) and when they were posted. That way, I can tell if I’ve listened to them without having to click on each podcast’s page and review the description. THANKS! :)

  34. Matt says:

    Hey Chris,

The site looks awesome, so congrats on a great design. However, I’m having trouble downloading the podcasts onto my Droid (the primary way I listen to them). This is probably user error, but I can’t think of anywhere else to ask.

With the old layout, I was able to click on the MP3 link, and “Save Link” which would start the download, but for some reason now I don’t have that option. Anyone have suggestions?

  35. Jason P says:

Well now I’m feeling stupid. The switching back to the grid view now works… dunno if it’s an intermittent thing for everyone or just a glitch I encountered.

Also one other thing, I noticed that if you leave a long enough comment the text window doesn’t scale to what you’re typing, the texts just disappears bellow the bottom of the box.

  36. Jason P says:

I’m liking the grid look so far however I did notice that if you click on full view to get back to the blog format, clicking on the grid view will not take it back the default grid view format.

Just one thing I noticed, i’ll keep clicking around but I’m liking what I see so far! šŸ˜€

  37. Paul G says:

Love the new look Chris! Can’t wait to check out your book (as well as the mysterious other “exciting announcements” you allude to). These are exciting times in Nerdist land!

  38. Michelle G. says:

Awesome job on the site! Looking snazzy guys ^_^

  39. Sylvia says:

I love the new layout, however I too have to use IE at work and on the podcast front page the large icons are sitting on top of their headers.
