Watch This DIY Sci-Fi Computer-Animated Student Short

rhastill2It’s become commonplace for people to make their own animated shorts using just their computers, but even in an age when animation is a dime-a-dozen on YouTube and Vimeo, this one’s in another league. Kaleb Lechowski, a 22-year-old student at the Berlin Mediadesign Hochschule, made this robots-vs.-aliens science fiction short, R’ha by himself (with a little help from a sound guy and a voice actor), and Mashable reports that he’s gotten Hollywood attention for it. He’s hoping to follow in the footsteps of District 9, which was derived from another sci-fi short. And it’s impressive enough to warrant the attention.

I posted this film on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr after I read the article about it on the “Blastr” website. It’s an impressive piece of work, but I hope Kaleb remains in charge of this film and not be ruined by the “Hollywood Studio system”.
