Were you blown away by Disney‘s live-action remake of The Jungle Book? The film opened on April 15, 2016 and destroyed the box office, winning over fans and critics alike with surprisingly realistic CGI animals voiced by the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray, Christopher Walken, Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong’O and Idris Elba. It also brought back lovely memories of the 1967 film inspired by the Rudyard Kipling book of the same name. Today we have a super-cool video which shows the trailer for the live-action version of the story against shots from the animated classic, and the similarities are striking.
The video comes to us from the website Oh My Disney and shows exactly how closely the current adaptation follows our beloved childhood version. It’s crazy how closely the shots of Bagheera (Kingsley) slinking along next to Mowgli (Neel Sethi) mirror the ones in the animated film, and how Baloo the Bear (Murray) talking about napping is so directly similar to the old cel drawings.
Disney has been working on a lot of live-action version of their classic animated films. Cinderella came out last year, and we’re now looking forward to everything from Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson to the Tinkerbell film starring Reese Witherspoon. Then there is that recently confirmed live-action Dumbo film that has everyone a bit nervous. How do you do that? CGI elephants? The Jungle Book certainly made that a viable option. They’ll have a lot of really racist things to remove from the original’s script, however, so a side-by-side comparison with that particular film probably won’t work so well.
