One of the beautiful things about the free world is the ability to practice your religion as you see fit, and regardless of your faith-related affiliation, it seems to be a universal truth, or at least a popular punchline, that the Westboro Baptist Church often presents themselves in an outlandish, inflammatory way. That is why another beautiful thing about living in the free world is the civil right to Rick Roll.
Of late, the Westboro Baptist Church has made a habit of protesting outside of Foo Fighters concerts, which is shameful because Dave Grohl is in the running for most likable dude on the planet. He only bolstered his profile in that regard over the weekend with his response to the church: As you can see in the video above, the band rolled up to the protesters, hanging out in the bed of a pickup trick and blasting Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”, thereby performing the most successful IRL Rick Roll the world has ever seen, complete with signs that said things like “You Got Rick Roll’d (Again)” and “Keep It Clean.”
The ultimate lesson to be gleaned from this is don’t mess with Dave Grohl, because even on just one good leg, he will kick some serious ass. It seems Grohl is a sort of anti-Samson: Take away his greatest asset and he only gets more mighty.
