Following Sunday night’s season four finale of Game of Thrones, Lena Headey appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He’s a fan of the series and especially appreciates the way Headey’s character, Cersei Lannister, drinks wine and throws insults. He’s correct in that she tosses back a goblet of wine like no other. So, to set the mood for the best possible interview, he gets out goblets and the wine starts flowing.
Headey plays along, and it is nothing short of amazing to watch her to turn vicious in a second as she slips into character. She turns up the delivery a touch, but for the most part, it’s like Cersei strolled onto the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live and took Headey’s place. She doesn’t need the elaborate wig or dresses to own the role. I realize that’s what actors do, but I’m still impressed. Watch and see:
Now, about the shirt Headey is wearing. Let’s discuss what it means after the image. If you haven’t read the books Game of Thrones is based on, stop reading now. Book and potential series spoilers after the image.
One last time: spoilers ahead for non-book readers.
Headey’s shirt reads “I’m not sorry,” and the words are inside a heart. You see, she teased the appearance of a certain character on Instagram two months ago. She captioned the photo of stones forming a heart, “My stone heart,” leading book readers to believe Lady Stoneheart* would appear before season four was over. Given that she previously shared a photo of her pressing on Pedro Pascal’s (Oberyn Martell) eyes like the Mountain did when he killed Oberyn, it seemed reasonable to assume this was another hint.
But no, she was just jerking us around. When Kimmel asked her about the photo, she said, “No, that was me drunk in Palm Springs going, ‘This is so pretty.’” But, seriously? Look at her shirt. She played one on us, and it’s kind of hilarious. I hope she keeps it up for the rest of the series.
*I’m not explaining who Lady Stoneheart is just in case people ignored my spoiler warnings.
