Game of Thrones is not one of those shows known for its levity. Working on a show that can so frequently be utterly soul-crushing has got to take its toll on its actors. So how do they manage to stay sane and in good spirits during intense shoots? Turns out Ellen Degeneres helps them pass the time on set.
In a video released on Lancel Lannister himself Eugene Simon’s Instagram, originally reported by Vulture, some of the Thrones cast members are seen passing the time between shoots by playing Degeneres’ amazing iPhone game, Heads Up!
Who knew Hannah Waddingham, who plays Septa Unella, was whimsical enough to enjoy acting out prompts like “fish” and “donkey”? She’s so hilarious to watch, especially when she tries to act out “daddy long legs,” that it almost makes you forget that one time she followed naked Cersei through the city while yelling, “Shame!” behind her. Who knows. Maybe Unella is more fun at parties than we originally thought.
Simon’s caption under the video also mentions how very hot it was on set, and you can imagine it’s only a million times worse for actors like Simon and Waddingham, who essentially have to wear giant burlap robes all day. Then again, I imagine being perpetually toasty can help the actors portray the nasty sides of their characters a bit better. At least they’ve got Heads Up! to help them get back into a better mood when the time is right.
We’ve got quite a wait until the next season of Thrones is released, so go back and watch Simon’s video again to help soothe your withdrawal. And be sure to tell us who you think would be the best Heads Up! teammate from the Thrones cast in the comments!
On a more serious note (of course), here’s a few new details about Game of Thrones season seven.
