For the past eight years, Warner Brothers Animation and DC Comics have been creating feature length PG-13 animated features for the DVD/Blu-ray market based on some of the classic stories from the entire history of DC publishing. Some of these have been only somewhat loosely based on the comics: like the very first movie they released, Superman: Doomsday, which was only somewhat similar to The Death and Return of Superman. Others, like the Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Justice League: New Frontier, are very influenced by the comic book namesakes, down to the character design and dialogue.
Now Warner Brothers and DC are releasing new printings of some of their most famous graphic novels alongside the movies they inspired. Each new hardcover is packaged with both the Blu-ray and the standard definition DVD of each film. Aside from Superman: Doomsday, among the first batch is Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One, together with the movie of the same name, Batman: Black and White with the movie Batman: Gotham Knight, Wonder Woman: Gods and Mortals alongside the stand-alone Wonder Woman film, JLA: Earth 2 together with Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, and finally Justice League: Secret Origin along with Justice League: War.
But if you wait a few months, there’s something even cooler on the way, especially if you just want all of your favorite stories collected together in one place. Hardcore DC fans will be able to purchase a slipcase set of all six books in the series starting November 3, with an illustration of the box from Justice League and Blackest Night artist Ivan Reis.
The stand alone graphic novel/Blu-ray combos are available to buy now, while the slipcase box set will be avaible for purchase on November 3rd. You can see a preview images of the new box set in our gallery below:
