V/H/S: VIRAL Gets First Trailer, Poster

Deadline reported from Cannes that V/H/S: Viral has its first international trailer and poster.

According to Deadline, Viral features short films that include, “a deranged illusionist, a homemade machine that opens a door to a parallel world, teen skaters involved in a Mexican death ritual, and a sinister organization tracking a serial killer – all tied together in a mythology that takes the V/H/S franchise into the internet age.”

It was previously reported that the third installment of the V/H/S franchise would feature a topical through story about a group of teens searching for fame becoming internet sensations. The directors of the anthology film were also recently announced and include Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead, Greg Bishop, Marcel Sarmimento, Todd Lincoln, and Nacho Vigalondo.

The trailer does a good job of showcasing the progression of the franchise and highlighting the best of the best from the previous two installments while appearing to significantly up the ante in the next film. From the short glimpses that we see from the upcoming Viral, it would appear that the production value and the intensity have all increased for the next chapter.

It’s also probably safe to say that the producers behind this franchise are paying attention to what is working in the previous films and what isn’t. While V/H/S was well received by genre fans, V/H/S 2 fared much better with critics, the stand out piece being “Safe Haven,” which is an undeniably well-made short film whether you’re a horror fan or not.

Will V/H/S: Viral focus more on high-concept segments? What kind of stories do you think the franchise should tackle next? Are you even interested in a third V/H/S film? Let’s hear it in the comments!

  1. I loved the first two films. They stood out among the crappy horror movies that were on Netflix. There’s something to be said about a film that takes conventional horror mainstays like the mockumentary aspect and mix it up with the anthology thing. I can’t wait to see what they surprise us with this time!
