The news keeps getting better and better for Twin Peaks fans: after David Lynch announced on Twitter he was returning to direct all the episodes of Showtime’s 2016 continuation of the series, actresses Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer) and Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne) revealed at last weekend’s Crypticon in Seattle that the new series wouldn’t just be the nine episodes that were originally announced last year, but actually doubled to eighteen, which might possibly point to us getting two seasons instead of one. After the future of the series seemed very much in doubt just a month ago, who saw that one coming??
Also revealed by the actresses at the convention was that the original location for the Double R Diner, Twede’s Café in North Bend, Washington, is being restored to its original appearance and retro look. Twede’s interiors were destroyed in a fire back in 2000, and when it was finally renovated it looked totally different inside. Lynch and company are not only bringing it back to its classic all-American 1950’s diner look, but the owners are planning to leave it that way after shooting for the new series ends, making Twede’s Cafe even more of a must-see pit stop for all Twin Peaks fans when visiting Washington state.
Much of the locations in North Bend and Snoqualmie Falls, Washington, were the pilot for the series and Fire Walk With Me were shot, remain largely the same as they were 25 years ago, almost as if the town was just collectively waiting for Lynch and Frost to come back one day. Although no doubt sets will be created for many of the interiors, it’s nice to know that the Double R Diner will remain the real thing.
