Rejoice, lovers of TV and haters of doing work: it’s Friday! And that means it’s almost time for the weekend. What better way to start the weekend right than with a bit of procrastination on this totally poppin’ morning, eh? That’s why we’ve got the TV-Cap, hot ‘n’ fresh, made just for you. Want to know what Steven Moffat thinks about non-earth companions on Doctor Who? Curious to find out where Game of Thrones was banned and why Seth Rogen and James Franco are Naked and Afraid, literally and figuratively? Look no further, my friends!
The time to read lil blurb-y things is now.
Moffat Talks the Limits of Companions: Aww jeez — does Steven Moffat read The Nerdist? (If so, ‘ello Stevie-boy!) In particular our op-ed about how fun it would be to have another non-earth companion on Doctor Who? MAYBE, if we let ourselves get a bit egomaniacal and narcissistic for a moment. At a recent Royal Television Society panel in the U.K. the showrunner had this to say about the prospect: “As to changing it up with the companion, we actually have changed it up quite a lot, look how different those girls have been. Wait and see” and “I think will always tend back to it for whatever reason, but there’s no reason you couldn’t tend away from it and there’s no diktat or special rule book left by Verity Lambert or something.” Ultimately, though, he thinks its too HARD to do it, stating that “the times they’ve varied it, it makes them work hard – you can see them struggling with Leela. She was a great character but they had to civilise her fast because it was getting hard to fit her into stories – but it’s not a hard and fast rule at all.” [Doctor Who TV]
And just because it’s fun — here’s Dan’s Dan Cave episode about potential new companions:
Channing Tatums All Over Jimmy Fallon: While playing “Box of Lies” on The Tonight Show, Channing Tatum beat Jimmy Fallon thanks to an E.T. doll in a sleeping bag because sometimes, in life, you can’t make things up:
Game of Thrones Gets Banned: Not here in America, of course — we love our blood and boobs far, far too much to allow a fate such as that to fall upon HBO’s Game of Thrones. But over in Turkey, at their military academies, the series has been banned for the “the protection of students” from “sexual exploitation, pornography, exhibitionism, abuse, harassment and all negative behaviors.” Instead they’ll have to just, I don’t know, go outside or on the Internet to witness all of that? [The MarySue]
Seth Rogen and James Franco Aren’t So Naked and Afraid: Well, I mean, OK, yes: they are naked — totally and verily naked, but that’s not really all that new for these two, we’re betting — but they don’t seem all that afraid to go it alone in the woods sans anything save the toilet paper and sunglasses in each of their respective satchels. (Also good lord we are so excited to watch this because OBVIOUSLY). The Discovery Channel really nailed it with this one. [Facebook]
The Fall Heads Stateside: We were juuuuuust lamenting this a few TV-Caps ago! Not having a stateside release date for BBC Two’s very excellent The Fall, we mean. Luckily, we don’t have to do that anymore! Because Netflix just announced that the second season of the Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan-fronted series will premiere for us non-Brits on January 16th, which juuust so happens to be the day before this particular writer’s birthday so we’re going to go ahead and assume this was a gift made specially for us. Aww shucks you guys, you shouldn’t have! [Deadline]
So — let’s get back to talking about companionson Doctor Who again because that’s always a fun thing, shall we? Leave some potential suggestions in the comments!
