John Cleese. Adam West. Rory Scovel lying. Eugene Mirman getting lost. Jon Daly emulating. Nina Hartley on top. Rachel Melvin. Nick Santora, creator of Scorpion. T.J. and Cash doing what they do. Disembodied voices from Gettysburg. And Todd Glass with his real, not podcast, family.
I told you we at the Nerdist Podcast Network would not be taking this holiday week off.
So, on the Nerdist Podcast, the legendary John Cleese examined his life, and death, and happiness, and family relationships, and marriage, and fans. He is way, way more than the funny guy from Monty Python and Fawlty Towers, and this show goes deep.
And Adam West came in for the Nerdist Podcast to talk about how he got That Job and became That Man. There’s a new Blu-ray set of the original Batman series, and this episode is a must-listen for anyone who fondly remembers POW! and ZAP! and BAM!, and anyone else, for that matter. And, no, it’s not Ralph Garman doing an impression, it’s really Adam West.
Chris keeps running into members of The State, and not just Tom Lennon, either. This week, Joe Lo Truglio was on the Nerdist Podcast, and I’m not sure how this one goes from the old days at MTV and the ubiquity of The State into old men’s nuts, but it does. Joe’s not only on Brooklyn Nine-Nine these days but also has a web series on Amazon, Beef.
And then there were four — four Nerdist Podcast episodes this week, that is. After a Twitter exchange with Chris, actress Rachel Melvin (Dumb and Dumber To) became a guest on the show, and it turns out she’s not just an actress but a writer whose blog The Spotted Owl is quite worth readling. The episode’s topics run the gamut from antiquing to Friends, Sex and the City, carsickness (!), the sinister backstory behind society’s obsession with cats, family, astrology, and career. Listen and get to know her.
Co-star Nicole Beharie returned and writer/supervising producer Don Todd and director Doug Aarniokoski dropped by to talk about this week’s Sleepy Hollow episode “Magnum Opus” on Sleepycast: The Official Sleepy Hollow Podcast, and Kumail and Emily were joined by comic/writer/actor Jon Daly this week on The Indoor Kids for talk about classic game emulations (I, for one, could play Dig Dug for weeks on end); Rory Scovel stretched the truth with talk about his addiction to drug testing on Lies with Sara Schaefer; and Kurt Braunohler returned for a new edition of The K Ohle from New York, where he dragged a blindfolded Eugene Mirman off to a creepy, abandoned location on Staten Island, while discussing Kurt’s career and Eugene’s career and the mashed potato bar.
Nick Santora talked about his work on Scorpion (tech nerds partner with Robert Patrick to fight crime) and Prison Break (prison break) on Nerdist Writers Panel, Rory Scovel lied his way through Lies with Sara Schaefer, Todd Glass spent the week with his family back in the fabulous Delaware Valley on The Todd Glass Show, and Nina Hartley — yes, that Nina Hartley — discussed the pleasures of women on top on Sex Nerd Sandra. Oh, and while The Wrestling Compadres Slamcast recapped Survivor Series, Compadre Jonny Loquasto brought his tapes of EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) from Gettysburg to Bizarre States, and I listened and you CAN hear some stuff there, though as a skeptic I’m not prepared to say that they’re anything but coincidental background noise. YOU BE THE JUDGE. Guy Code producer Matthew Krol visited the Comic Book Club, and Cash Levy and T.J. Miller were entertainingly all over the place as usual on Cashing In with T.J. Miller. (I never know how to recap their show. It’s just them being them, which is more than good enough.)
And that was on a holiday week. Imagine when we’re at full strength. Wait, you don’t have to imagine that. Just go to the Nerdist Podcast Network homepage to listen and subscribe, and join us at the Nerdist Podcast Network Facebook page. You need something to listen to while devouring the Thanksgiving leftovers, don’t you?
