On the Nerdist Podcast Network this week: Ellie Kemper and Pete Holmes talked about relationships and hometowns, the guys from Undateable talked comedy and Passover (!), and… well, here’s the rundown:
Ellie Kemper (oh, come on, do I need to tell you she’s from The Office, Bridesmaids, and the current Netflix hit The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt?) did You Made it Weird with Pete Holmes, and from the opening moments (or, as Pete calls them, “ope momes”), it’s a fun conversation that starts with Ellie’s recent marriage (and the proposal(s) that led to it) and takes off from there through “noogie” father-son relationships, St. Louis and Boston, caffeine, “Ellie-M-N-O-P,” deodorant, indistinct musical preferences, meeting her future husband while interning at Conan O’Brien’s show, and much more.
Brent Morin, Ron Funches, Rick Glassman, and David Fynn brought Undateable to the Nerdist Podcast as the four finished up their stand-up tour. You got road stories, stand-up stories, @midnight stories, and, somehow, the story of Passover. Also, David talks about being in Doctor Who and everyone tries out fake British accents (okay, David’s is real, but everyone else). Also, they rip apart “wacky” morning zoo DJs, because, take it from a radio guy, “wacky” morning zoo DJs deserve to get ripped apart.
Comedian/author Sarah Colonna dropped by the Nerdist Podcast to promote her new book “Has Anyone Seen My Pants,” and her appearance on Bar Rescue provided much material for Matt, whose fandom of that program is well documented. Jealousy abounds. Sarah talked about working on Chelsea Lately as a writer and then a panelist, and, somehow, the discussion ends up addressing the urgent topic of pubic hair. Sure, why not.
Sometime Friday, there should be a Hostful Nerdist Podcast, and when it posts (at this writing, I don’t know when; it should be here when it’s ready), you’ll get Chris’ vacation stories from spectacular Utah (really, the scenery is breathtaking), Matt’s wedding plans and how Chris’ schedule is colliding with them, Jonah’s Obama impression, and more. Look out for it. And we have the promised appearance by Martin Starr on The Mutant Season, also here today.
Chiptune artist Professor Shyguy played music and talked gaming on The Indoor Kids. Emily sang, too. Pre-order her book Super You: Release Your Inner Superhero already. It’s gonna be great.
Podcast Convergence!:Jonah Raydio experienced a Best Show takeover with Tom Scharpling and Jon Wurster on hand, which, for Best Show fans, is all you need to know. Also merging efforts were Kurt Braunohler and Joe DeRosa on a The K Ohle/Down With Joe DeRosa joint episode.
What else? Well, The 49th Key author Erika Lewis talked mythology on Bizarre States. Diane Ruggiero returned (she was on the SXSW episode) to the Nerdist Writers Panel to talk about iZombie and her career, including her time working on Veronica Mars. It was double the JVs on The JV Club with Janet Varney talking to actress Jean Villepique. Friday Night Lights‘ Scott Porter slung facts on Today We Learned. Jeff Rubin returned for another visit to the Comic Book Club.
And Thrilling Adventure Hour brought you another water-related adventure with Phillip Fathom, Deep Sea Detective recorded at SF Sketchfest. Kevin and Steve covered a lot of territory while musing about the pitfalls of social media on Chewin’ It. Tom and John offered more wellness advice and answered your questions on Pro You. Episodes 56 through 60 got the listener-selected “Worst-Of” treatment in a Cashing In with T.J. Miller clip show.
Go to the Nerdist Podcast Network homepage to listen and subscribe to it all, and join us at the Nerdist Podcast Network Facebook page to keep apprised of what’s coming up, because you’ll want to be there. Or wherever you are, but with podcasts as accompaniment.
