It’s been over three weeks since David Lynch publicly announced on Twitter that he would no longer be directing the new iteration of Twin Peaks for Showtime a mere six months after it was announced, breaking the hearts of fans everywhere, some who have waited over two decades for a return to the Pacific Northwest town full of secrets and mysteries.
Since that announcement was made, Showtime went into damage control mode and assured fans that Twin Peaks wasn’t cancelled, at that they were making every effort to secure both David Lynch and co-creator Mark Frost to return. After that, the actors from the show have started a cast-run Facebook page, encouraging fans to sign the petition to save the series, and even made a video saying “No David Lynch, No Twin Peaks“. And of course, social media has been bombarded with the hashtag #SaveTwinPeaks.
But one fan by the name of Mark Martucci has now outdone everyone else with this great, David Lynch-inspired “Save Twin Peaks” video, filled with references to not only Twin Peaks, but other notable works of Lynch’s (the old rotary phone ringing is very much a Mulholland Drive reference). Set to Angelo Badalamenti’s track from Fire Walk With Me called “The Pink Room“, this video gives you everything from Audrey Horne’s tied cherry stems and her saddle shoes, to owls, secret diaries, logs, and of course, a damn fine slice of cherry pie.
Thanks to the efforts of fans and the cast, Showtime has reportedly taken notice, and negotiations for Lynch to come back are said to be taking place. Dana Ashbrook said this week that right now, Lynch’s return was “50/50” which is definitely better than it was before. And actress Madchen Amick, who plays Shelly, tweeted out a pic of herself, Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne), Kimmy Robertson (Lucy), and Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer) out at dinner with Lynch, hopefully doing their best to get the old man back on board.

In the meantime, check out Mark Martucci’s video below, and let’s all hope that the Giant’s cryptic message to Dale Cooper “It Is Happening Again” applies to the show as well.
