The supreme nerd overlord we know as Chris Hardwick celebrated a milestone this week on @midnight. Monday’s show marked the 200th episode of the comedy competition. With an accomplishment of this magnitude, it is only fitting that it be honored in some fantastic way. @midnight fans know that every show ends with a “FTW” (For The Win) segment where contestants enjoy a final, sudden death battle of wits in order to win the Internet for the next 23.5 hours. As an homage to Hardwick and his customary erasing of previously accrued points, Funny or Die co-producer Joe Farrel created a 6+ minute supercut of these wipes.
This supercut is truly impressive. Upon close inspection you can actually categorize the wipes. You have your leg wipe, bum wipe, naughty wipe, window washer wipe, flourish wipe, beam wipe, traffic cop wipe, sandwich wipe, tiger wipe, cardboard wipe, “Hail Hydra” wipe, Harry Potter-themed wipe, remote wipe, and of course, a wipe with “the Force.” The reactions to the wipes are also varied. Some contestants are grief-stricken to see their points disappear. Others simply relish every second of the experience. We see Nikki Glaser welcome her wipes with great zeal and contestants like Jack Black, Rob Huebel, Mike Lawrence take the wipe excitement to whole new levels. My favorite reaction of all, however, is the one from the No, You Shut Up! host, Paul F. Tompkins. His contempt for the wipe is truly palpable and it’s hard not to love every second of his agony. I don’t know about you but I am truly loooking forward two hundred more wipes from our venerable @midnight host. Congrats!
