Think you’re a Wes Anderson fan? Love his movies? Well, whatever you feel toward Anderson’s films is nothing when compared to illustrator and art director Alejandro Giraldo’s collection of drawings of almost all the main characters from almost every Wes Anderson film.
Giraldo illustrated over 40 characters from Anderson’s films The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, and The Grand Budapest Hotel.
There is definitely something subtly beautiful about the oversimplified drawings of the characters. Using very few colors in each helps to accentuate the distinct characteristics in each drawing, whether it be Agatha’s birthmark, Peter’s bindi, or Margot’s red lipstick and matching hair clip. Additionally, whether deliberate or not, the illustrations shed light on how the world in which Wes Anderson films take place is a distinct universe in its own right with its own rules of fashion and demeanor. It also doesn’t hurt that Anderson films happen to have their usual rotating cast of the same actors.
You can check out the rest of Alejandro’s Wes Anderson series in the gallery below and should you want to (we know you want to) purchase prints, they can be found here along with other printed merchandise of his expansive collection. However, don’t order the t-shirts with the 42 characters on them, we totally called dibs.
What are your favorites? Not that Alejandro missed many, but do you think other Wes Anderson characters should have been given the same treatment? Let us know in the comments below! Also, can we request these in a cross stitch? That’d be pretty amazing.
