Now that I’ve been out of college for a decade, I’m starting to think that my letter to Hogwarts isn’t coming. I don’t totally understand it; I imagine it was just some unfortunate oversight, but alas, that dream seems like it will have to remain as such. The best that my fellow Muggles and I can do is to just buy a home and actually live at Hogwarts…kinda.
Royal Connaught Park, a former public school with Victorian Gothic buildings, was used to film the Great Hall in the first three Harry Potter movies, as well as Dumbledore’s office in The Order of the Phoenix. The school has now been converted into high-end, luxury flats, homes, and townhouses.
While a magical education at Hogwarts might be free for students, these new abodes will cost you quite a few pounds, starting at 649,000 and up going all the way up to 2.8 million. (In galleons that’s 129,800 to 560,000, and in U.S. dollars it’s roughly between 985,000 and 4.2 million.)
While expensive, the homes do not include house-elves to cook for you, as Muggles outlawed slavery long ago.
It was recently announced that Harry Potter fans would be able to have Christmas dinner in the Great Hall, so even if you don’t have enough gold to buy one of these homes, you can still try to experience what it’s like to be a student at Hogwarts.
