“Greetings, programs, and welcome to the Game Grid!” Tron fans have been waiting years to finally hear those words at a major Disneyland attraction. But you’re gonna have to go all the way to Shanghai Disneyland if you want to ride the lightcycles from Tron!
Next month, Disney is opening its first theme park in China with the Tron indoor roller coaster as one of the new attractions that has never appeared in any Disney park before. Inside the Magic has posted a video of the Tron Lightcycle Power Run from the cast members preview, and it looks like the Tron ride of our dreams! Even in this footage, the speed and the Tron: Legacy inspired visuals are breathtaking. The only downside is that the ride appears to end way too soon…just like the film franchise.
One of the riders appears to be reacting to Tron himself, although we don’t see this in the video itself. Could the title character be making a cameo appearance at the end of the ride? Bruce Boxleitner might be done with Tron, but we’re not done with him! And is it too much to hope for that Jeff Bridge’s Flynn and his evil creation CLU make an appearance somewhere in this attraction?
American Tron fans should be jealous. All we got was a brief Tron interlude in Disneyland California’s PeopleMover and that’s been gone for two decades! We never even got to outrun a Recognizer or talk to Bit. As if we needed more reasons to be envious, Shanghai Disneyland is calling their Tron ride “one of the coolest and fastest indoor roller coasters in any Disney theme park.” If the video is any indication, that may be accurate.
Could the new Tron ride ever make it to one of Disney’s American theme parks? We hope so! But honestly, it doesn’t look good for Tron in this country after Disney scrapped plans to make a third Tron film. However, we would love to see it happen, and it would probably easier to bring this ride over than to sort out the theme park rights for Marvel’s characters, which are currently tied up on the east coast by Universal Orlando.
What did you think about this preview of the Tron attraction? Are you gonna book a trip to Shanghai Disneyland just for this ride? Fight for the users and share your thoughts in the comment section below!
