Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of news out of the Simpsons camp. From the announcement that Harry Shearer is leaving the show, to the news that Marge and Homer will be separating this coming season, being a fan has been pretty stressful as of late.
While no word if Shearer’s departure is a belated April Fool’s Day joke, animation’s first family has decided to nip the other rumors in the bud THEMSELVES.
In the video above, Marge and Homer are surrounded by flowers and a “Together Forever” banner. After a dig at the media, Marge does everything in her power to quash any rumors of their relationship’s demise, while Homer predictably gives plenty of reason why it may be a good idea. Be on the lookout for some cameos by Bart and Lisa. Maggie’s there as well, and plays a part that subtly helps strengthen the rumor. Oh, Simpsons writers, you are a SMART crew.
This whole hullabaloo started started in an interview with executive producer Al Jean talked about an upcoming storyline where Homer’s newly diagnosed narcolepsy causes such a strain on the marriage that they legally separate. Homer then goes on to start a romance with his pharmacist, played by Lena Dunham.
From what the video is trying to explain, it seems this is a case of “reading WAY too much into it.” Then again, this is the Simpsons. We won’t know 100% until we see it for ourselves.
The Simpsons 27th (!) season premieres this fall on Fox.
