The Pixies Announce New Album And Share Single “Um Chagga Lagga”

The worlds of indie and alternative rock rejoiced when The Pixies announced their reunion in 2004, and even more when they released their fifth album, 2014’s Indie Cindy, their first post-reunion record. Now, the legendary ’90s band has proved their reunion is more than a one-off deal with today’s news: They have a new album on the way, Head Carrier, which will be released on Sept. 30.

Check out the artwork below, which was designed by art director and frequent collaborator Vaughan Oliver:

Oh, and they also shared a fuzzed-out, alternative rock blast of a single, “Um Chagga Lagga.”

Founding member Kim Deal hasn’t been with the band since her departure in 2013, but new bassist Paz Lenchantin, who has also played with A Perfect Circle and Zwan, says she’s been fitting in just fine: “I spent three years learning to understand what being a Pixie meant, and now, my heart, spirit, and love for their music is embedded in me and I feel like I have become a Pixie. We had been more about the history of the Pixies, but now, we are about going forward.”

Check out the tracklist for the new album (which is available for pre-order now) below, and let us know what you think about “Um Chagga Lagga.” It sure does sound like a triumphant addition to the Pixies legacy to us.
