The PING PONG SUMMER Trailer Has a Surprising Amount of Popping and Locking

So from the looks of it, Michael Tully’s Ping Pong Summer is like a higher-energy Napoleon Dynamite set in the ’80s. Oh, and featuring breakdancing.

Susan Sarandon, Lea Thompson, Amy Sedaris, Judah Friedlander, and newcomer Marcello Conte star in this comedy, which did pretty well for itself during festival season last year. Now, it will be released simultaneously in theaters and on VOD on June 6th.

From the official synopsis:

The year is 1985. Rad Miracle is a shy, 13-year-old white kid obsessed with two things: Ping-Pong and hip-hop. During his family’s annual summer vacation to Ocean City, Maryland, Rad makes a new best friend, experiences his first real crush, becomes the target of rich, racist local bullies, and finds an unexpected mentor in his outcast next-door neighbor. Ping Pong Summer is about that time in your life when you’re treated like an alien by everyone around you, even though you know—deep down—you’re as funky fresh as it gets.

Ping Pong Summer will be released in select theaters and available on VOD as well on June 6th.

  1. Film Cutting says:

The trailer is actually cut in the style of a cheesy 80s trailer.

  2. keb says:

I saw this movie at the Cleveland International Film Festival ~ it was SO cute! There aren’t too many movies about the art of ping pong, but when they come around, they’re always quite entertaining (Ping Pong Playa is another one I’d recommend!)!
