Truly one of my favorite things about the internet is the never-ending supply of fan-made trailers. Whether it’s taking reboots and doing them in the original film’s style (or vice versa), adjusting a current movie to look like it was released decades ago, or even just crossing two different films into something new, people consistently show off their talent by creating something fun to help us get excited for a movie’s release.
I think the studios must share my appreciation for this art form, because Warner Bros. has released an official trailer for their upcoming film The Nice Guys, starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, that is done in a retro ’70s style befitting the film’s setting. The trailer calls to mind the classic action/comedy duo films of that era. If you had no idea this was something a studio put out, you’d be sure it was some clever fan-made exploit some exceptionally on-point editing. But this thing is totally legit.
“When you’re in trouble, when there’s nowhere to turn, you can always call on… the Nice Guys.”
I have really been looking forward to this movie (I think it’s going to be excellent and I love the two leads so I make no apologies for being hyped about this), but this stylized trailer is the best yet. This looks like a much more violent comedy action film—the kind Hollywood doesn’t make enough of anymore.
And hey—just because the studios seem to be figuring out how effective these types of trailers can be doesn’t mean fans shouldn’t keep on making their own though. You do you internet; keep up the great work.
