“One of the best stand-up comedy shows in Los Angeles” is a hard title to get and even harder to keep. For years now, that title has belonged to the Wednesday night stand-up show at our very own Nerdmelt, better known as The Meltdown with Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani. That’s why you should clear your schedule, sleep included, for Wednesday, July 23rd. That’s when The Meltdown with Jonah & Kumail will have its series premiere on Comedy Central, at 12:30AM that very night (technically, the early Thursday morning).
Every Wednesday, Los Angeles audiences have been exclusively treated to the wondrous experience of watching some of the world’s funniest people in the uber-intimate setting of The Meltdown Comics back room. You might have heard the likes of comedy greats such as Louis C.K., Robin Williams, Jim Gaffigan, or Maria Bamford performing in front of the packed-to-the-walls crowd. Also, note that the latest class of comedy giants such as Kyle Kinane, Pete Holmes, Hannibal Buress, Marc Maron, Jerrod Carmichael, Ron Funches, Kristen Schaal, and more perform there regularly in addition to comedians whose names will (probably) become just as big as the ones previously mentioned. On top of all of that, Jonah and Kumail’s antics as the show’s permanent hosts cap off the wire-to-wire delight of an evening that made Comedy Central want to bring it to TV.
The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail will air late Wednesday nights from July 23rd to September 7th, which means you could, if you’re in LA, watch the live show and the TV series all in one night. For those several weeks, Comedy Central might very well have programmed one of the most formidable two-hour blocks of comedy with The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, @midnight, and now, Meltdown.
