Half-Life 3 confirmed? Ha! As if. Unfortunately we’ll just have to keep on dreaming, because the request that Neil Druckmann–the creative director of The Last of Us –made for Half-Life’s license was only made in jest. Earlier this week, the developer shared one of TLOU alum Merle Dandridge’s tweets, and made a proposition to Valve, stating that if given the popular franchise’s license, they would “take care of the rest,” ending the statement in a wink.
Here’s Druckmann’s tweet:
What makes this so great is that Dandridge, who plays Marlene in The Last of Us, also lent her vocals to Half-Life 2’s Alyx Vance. The below image, which she posted to her Twitter account, features the actress in a mocap suit with what is presumably Naughty Dog’s performance capture stage in the background.
This of course doesn’t confirm that Naughty Dog has a stake in the series (mostly because of the emoticon used in the tweet) but it is a fun thing to ponder. Seeing as we still don’t know for sure whether Valve is even working on Half Life 3 at the moment, handing the title over to another studio is possible, but not likely. The assumption is that the company is planning on releasing Half-Life 3 alongside the Steam Box as a launch title. But, I guess we’ll just have to wait and find out.
In other Naughty Dog-related news, Ashley Johnson (who plays TLOU’s lead Ellie) shared the below video on Twitter, in which she and fellow Last of Us co-star Troy Baker (who plays Joel) switched roles using the audio from one of the tense moments, and the Dubsmash app.
Would you like to see a Naughty Dog-helmed Half-Life? Do you even care about that franchise anymore? Let us know in the comments below.
