The JV Club #97: Zandy Hartig

It’s tough to beat New York City in the 1980’s, as this week’s guest Zandy Hartig (Childrens Hospital) proves with memories of museums, clubs, and a very special classroom. Plus: Sting!

  1. Stephanie says:

Her idea for a place for adults and a separate play area exists in my town. Now, there just needs to be more of them everywhere.

  2. Juls says:

Beautiful episode, especially when she was talking about her teacher and the positive parts of an overall challenging situation. A really great teacher is so special and really does stay with you for years after you graduate – I had a similar experience with a music teacher, and my involvement in music through high school really saved me from other stuff going on at school and at home.

    Hooray for great teachers!

  3. Alec says:

Zandy didn’t mention anything to the contrary, so I’m going to assume she painted Sting in his crazy Dune combat suit.

  4. Andrew F. says:

Yes! A new podcast! Happy Belated Birthday Janet! I hope you had a good one!

  5. Amy says:

The discussion of how much teachers can mean to someone was so, so beautiful. I was listening on my way to work in a kindergarten classroom, and listening to that right before walking into a room off 20 sweet little faces staring up at me was almost too much! I’ve had many teachers that I loved in schools that, over-all, were no good for me. I think Zandy has the right mindset- we can appreciate and be grateful for the relationships that an experience gave us while still understanding that the over-arching situation was damaging.

  6. PJ says:

“Put” not “puts”. And French is totally more useful than Spanish. I mean, comics-wise, Spanish has Quino’s Mafalda, French has the entire franco-belgian comics to choose from. Thus, French wins.

  7. PJ says:

Ah, Nova Scotia… I had a nice time in Nova Scotia, despite the weather while I was there. The Annapolis Valley is so quaint. I fully recommend a wine tour. Their icewines puts Ontario’s to shame.

  8. Coastin_44 says:

Loved Zandy’s desciption of her time in the Brooklyn in the 80’s! Who else has the experience of seeing Andy Warhol out clubbing, as its an everyday thing? So cool!

  9. Jupiter says:

Yeah! New podcast! This podcast has been my weekly treat. I look forward to Thursdays now b/c I know there will be a new JV Club episode. Happy birthday Jnaet, sounds like your birthday weekend was fun!
