The JV Club #30: Jennifer Finnigan

Zut Alors! It’s the merveilleuse Montreal-born Jennifer Finnigan (Better With You) joining Janet to celebrate the thrill of a good scary movie, the magic of a potluck, and how a little girl who wanted to be a nun ended up winning three daytime Emmys.

Comments

  1. Alec says:

Jennifer Finnigan is one of those people that I only have positive thoughts about. Sure, I’m a fan of other people who grew up in Montreal, but there’s something about the connection to a fixture of my childhood that makes me want to root for her even more (same goes with Melissa Auf der Maur).

And I have to say, aside from my family, the food the thing I miss most about Montreal. You can find poutine anywhere these days, but there’s something about a Montreal bagel that can’t be exported.

  2. Erica says:

Let me join the chorus of excitement over The Mixed-Up Files mention! Also wonderful to hear from another child of a radio dad!

  3. janet says:

Great comments so far, friends! Renee- Pet Sematary scared the pants off me as well. Curtis, I never dressed as Raggedy Ann but one year I did dress as Wee Willy Winky. But for the life of me I can’t remember what that even entailed!!

  4. PJ says:

There’s never a wrong time to go to Montréal. Well, except Christmas because its climate is too warm to guarantee a white Xmas.

  5. Scott B. says:

Don’t forget, WATCHER IN THE WOODS!!!!!

  6. Renee says:

Loved the Halloween talk! About four years ago I dressed up as George Michael, so I love the gender bending aspect to the holiday. The horror movie talk was also great. I saw Pet Semetary for the for time at a sleep over, and my friend had a cat, so needless to say I did not sleep well that night.

  7. Curtis says:

On the topic of Halloween costumes – I, for some reason, picture Janet dressed as Raggedy Ann…

  8. So many good mentions in this episode!! Specifically loved the reference to The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler — hadn’t thought of that book in years!! I also couldn’t help but laugh when I shouted out (to no one) “The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo” right before Jen said the name of the show. I’ve enjoyed every single episode so far but this one had me smiling the most, I think! :)

  9. Todd Mason says:

FROM THE MIXED-UP FILES OF MRS. BASIL E. FRANKWEILER had its kids living in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC…there was a weak film version best known as THE HIDEAWAYS (with Ingrid Bergman as Frankweiler), but (Ms.) E. L. Konigsburg’s novel is vastly better (the Rosie O’Donnell film of HARRIET THE SPY is a much worse adaptation…and O’Donnell v. Bergman, after all).

For that matter, if you haven’t yet, Daphne Du Maurier’s “The Birds” is much better than that movie drawn from it, too…

  10. Mark says:

Shelby Wu! Holy cow, I haven’t thought of that show in AGES.
