The Indoor Kids #6: Carlos Ferro

Carlos Ferro (Dom from Gears of War, Leonardo Da Vinci from Assassin’s Creed, and hundreds of other games) stops by to talk about the his favorite superheroes, whether being a “geek” has become mainstream, and that one scene in Gears of War 2 that made him cry (let’s face it, it made all of us cry).

I can’t stop giggling at how much Carlos is flirting with Allie. Too cute! Wonderful podcast!

  2. Yuki bowl says:

Carlos is a self absorbed douche: “It’s not an exclusive, but I’ve only said this on twitter once” wow, you’ve only broadcasted that message to the entire world once? That is a basically exclusive.

  3. devophill says:

Wait a sec, there TOTALLY ARE people getting beaten up and turning into coins in the Scott Pilgrim books. Edgar Wright wasn’t making that shit up! Scott gets a life that looks like his own floating head! Okay, no more comments til this thing is over…

  4. devophill says:

Great podcast. FYI Batman came out (in the USA) on June 23, 1989. I remember because it was on all the teaser posters, and it was the last day of seventh grade for me.

  5. Grover Saunders says:

Really enjoyed the episode and there was lots of great conversation.

But Carlos REALLY needs to get his history/ego in check when he starts talking about Gears as if it’s the standard by which all other games should be judged. Was he seriously trying to suggest that four-player coop is something that Gears invented and that other games are stealing (as if that’s a huge innovation in the first place)? And don’t even get me started on the plot, which is like something from a latter-day Jean Claude Van Damme movie and certainly not any great leap in quality from the plot of something like Halo (which he seemed to be trying to take potshots at for some reason).

I dunno, he just kept saying things that really rubbed me the wrong way.

  6. Kevin Le says:

Fun listening to you guys haha

  7. DefconDan says:

Kumail/Ali: You guys are super awesome… the humor and more importantly the video game talks… this sh1t is crayons man. Seriously *really* enjoying the ‘cast and some of the stuff Kumail tosses out cracks me up. Please keep it going!

  8. tk says:

the indoor kids is my new favorite podcast

  9. StrikerObi says:

I just wanted to say that Carlos was intense! I love hearing from people who really devote themselves to the things they love. Keep up the great work.

  10. Kumail Nanjiani says:

    Ben Z,

I spent 4 years in the early 2000’s in a small IA town called Grinnell. About halfway between Iowa City and Des Moines. Only time in my life I’ve ever lived in a small town. I loved it.

  11. croon says:

Didn’t know who Carlos was before, but that dude is an awesome dude.

  12. Ali Baker says:

The c word. She one of those.

  13. Kumail Nanjiani says:

Thanks so much for listening! And glad you liked it! I emailed Carlos and got the clip he was talking about. Warning: this clip is enraging and
EXTREMELY infuriating. Watch at your own risk. Ughh. And the “news” anchor has even worse hair than Carlos described.

    Watch at your own risk:

  14. Chris says:

As I was listening and heard him say the address, I immediately knew it was Zoom. I watched it a bit later than he did (with my little sister in the early 2000s), but the show still stuck out in my mind when i heard it. Great podcast, can’t wait for the next episode, keep up the good work.

  15. Vincent S says:

Just want to say that this podcast is freaking awesome! I thought you might want to know that.

  16. Rob says:

hey did any one find the video Carlos was talking about?? the cosplay one.

  17. ShawnoftheDead says:

As Mandy said, you guys keep “brining it.” Pickling it, too. Hey, I really enjoyed listening to Carlos Ferro giving the backbeat on the microphone the whole time. Maybe next time get him a squeezy toy.

  18. Ben says:

Does anyone have the link to the video with the cosplayer?

  19. Mandy W. says:

You guys just keep brining it :). As a gamer who has been out of it since motherhood came calling and work/life ect, Gears of War sounds like the type of series that will get me back in. Sounds awesome.

  20. sam says:

I’m only a casual video game fan but I love all the Indoor Kids podcasts :) You guys are the best.

  21. Livius says:

The song is Danger Mountain by Anamanaguchi

  22. Kyle says:

I love the show, but I have to ask…who does the opening theme for the show? I’m a fan of chip-tunes music, but can’t find anything on-line as to who produced the song.

  23. kasie says:

emaiiilll send it to ZOOM! PBSkids dot org.

  24. Jay says:

What is the name of the vid Carlos talks about? The one about the comic con girl. I cant find it.

  25. Brad says:

And I’m back. Just finished the ep and it was great. Those last couple seconds were perfect.

  26. Brad says:

Currently listening to the ep. I had to laugh when Kumail did the unthinkable and discussed a woman’s age.

  27. Ben S says:

What up, Ali! You’re young and your penchant for internet meme humor is very indicative of a generation I am no longer apart of but you’re a QT

  28. Amanda says:

Love, love, LOVE this episode! I totally agree with Carlos on the state of nerdom/geekdom in the mainstream; it’s not at all accepted yet. Even my friends (who are non-geeks) still make fun of me for the awesome things I like, and they can’t understand why I’m into it. At least with the Internet now, it lets us know that we’re not alone out there!

  29. Ben Z says:

I’ve lived in Iowa my entire life (a few different cities). Where did you live and when?

This episode was a payoff episode. Glad ep3 was about couples gaming.

  30. Hunter says:

I bought the Scott Pilgrim Score, for the sole reason to have the 8-bit universal theme.

  31. Conversionbox says:

Zoom was Freaking EPIC! I loved that show! It was still on into the early 2000’s on PBS. It rocked so hard!

  32. Livius says:

    Listening to this now.
    Love the podcast.
