Ever since CBS announced the Supergirl TV series from The Flash producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, the talk of a crossover between the two has been rampant. Even denials from CBS failed to stop the rumors completely, but seemingly with good reason: because the rumors are true!
Grant Gustin‘s Flash is slated to guest star on an episode of Supergirl in late March. But before your brains explode with visions of a Super-Flash back and forth, we must warn you: Melissa Benoist‘s Supergirl won’t be heading to Central City (yet?).
“We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl,” said Berlanti and Kreisberg in a statement. “We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.”
The Flash‘s current season-long storyline actually has the perfect justification for a crossover with Supergirl, as several inter-dimensional rifts have formed in Flash’s Central City, leading to alternate Earths. So it seems likely that one of those rifts leads to Supergirl’s Earth.
While Matt Ryan reprised his role as John Constantine on Arrow last fall, this will mark the first time two of DC’s superhero dramas have crossed over between two different networks while both shows are still in production and on-air. (But it probably helps that CBS and The CW are corporate siblings.) Somehow, a Flash or Supergirl crossover with Fox’s Batman prequel, Gotham seems less likely.
Gustin’s guest appearance in Supergirl will air on Monday, March 28.
