I can’t honestly say that I’ve always wanted to be a kunai throwing ninja mushroom. In fact, I’m pretty sure I never have. But the more I see of Gearbox‘s upcoming first-person shooter Battleborn, the more my aspirations of becoming a cunning toadstool grow. I mean, come on, look at this dude:
Meet Miko, one of the nine illustrious characters that have been unveiled for the game thus far. Gearbox seems poised on making an eccentric cast of characters, all with their own unique gameplay mechanics and vibrant personalities. Today, the first gameplay footage of Battleborn surfaced on the web by way of IGN, and it is certainly looking a colorful time. Here’s a look at IGN’s preview below:
So let’s clear up one of the biggest misconceptions about Battleborn: this game is not a MOBA. While there are elements in the game that resemble those seen in the MOBA genre, Battleborn is at heart a first-person shooter, and it features 5 player cooperative gameplay, as well as 5v5 competitive gameplay. The game isn’t a topdown game like League of Legends or D.O.T.A. 2, nor is it a a MOBA that’s simply in the first-person perspective. Got it? Good!
There’s something about cutesy animated designs being applied to war-like video game settings that somehow always manages to pull me in. It’s like watching action figures come to life and try to annihilate each other, with you in control of the mayhem. Battleborn touts that similar TimeSplitters-like vibrance, using crude humor and witty dialogue to level out the game’s brutality. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one up to its release on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC, but in the meantime, stay tuned for some awesome Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel coverage in the coming weeks.
