Every year Liège, Belgium hosts an International Ice Sculpture Festival, and this year it will include a large collection of Star Wars sculptures for their Ice Star Wars exhibit. Various characters and tableaux from the Star Wars films, including The Force Awakens, were crafted out of ice and will be on display from November 14 until January 31 on the station square in Liège.
The official Facebook page for the Festival released pictures that showed artists and representatives from Disney working to make sure the sculptures were properly set up in time for the opening. The official page for the festival describes the event as follows:
Discover this extraordinary exhibition, wander through the dazzling intergalactic decorations for which Star Wars is so famous, and meet the most well-loved characters created by Lucasfilm since 1977. Ice Star Wars takes you on an unforgettable odyssey through the world of snow and ice, without doubt, the coolest day trip of the year. But don’t forget to keep your gloves and woolly hat close at hand: the temperature in the ice box is a constant minus six degrees centigrade.
May the Force be with you !
I’m not sure which one is the most impressive – There’s something to be said for the sturdiness of the Han Solo in carbonite. Classic, that. But, something like General Grievous has so many spindly appendages that could break off at any moment. The delicate and the strong, that’s what sums up all of these statues, which you can check out in the gallery below.
As I look through the images of the Ice Star Wars sculptures, they remind me of one of the first stories I wrote for Nerdist about ten months ago. I’m sure I am not the only one who wishes they could venture out to Belgium to check these out. Something tells me there will be a lot of these types of things this winter with The Force Awakens releasing.
