Batman versus Superman, Captain America versus Iron Man, Donald Trump versus not a pile of human garbage—so far, it seems like 2016 is a year of intense ideological (and, in some cases, physical) conflict. Wouldn’t it be nice if instead of tearing apart our friends and allies, we focused our energies on a larger threat? Well, thankfully, that’s exactly what’s going to happen in Zack Snyder’s latest addition to the DC Comics Extended Universe, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. As we can infer from the subtitle, we will see a primordial version of the Justice League come together after spending much of the movie pummeling one another, both with their words and with their superpowered fists. And this dawn is motivated by that squeaky little supergenius Lex Luthor’s most horrifying creation: Doomsday.
Many fans were shocked to see Doomsday rear his ugly mug in the film’s second trailer, and not just because he looked like the bastard child of Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and that one troll from The Hobbit. This gray, hulking behemoth is one of the most vaunted villains in Superman’s canon, and will likely serve as the impetus for Batman and Superman to put their differences aside long enough and stop his rampage. But who is Doomsday? Many people know that he is the only villain to have killed Superman, as seen in 1992’s “The Death of Superman” storyline. But in grand comic book tradition, there’s so much more to Doomsday than meets the eye, which in this case is like if Krampus and Santa Claus had a baby with a beard made of bones. So, on today’s episode of The Dan Cave, in order to help enlighten you before Batman v Superman hits theaters on March 25, 2016, I’m going to tell you everything you need to know about Doomsday.
What version of Doomsday do you hope to see on the big screen? Are you excited to see him on the big screen?
