This year, John Hughes’ seminal coming-of-age dramedy Pretty in Pink turns 30 years old, joining the ranks of the Chernobyl disaster, The Legend of Zelda, and Shia LeBeouf as things hitting the three-decade mark that have had an indelible effect on pop culture. Many remember Hughes’ film fondly as the story of a working class girl, Andie (Molly Ringwald), who winds up with rich hunk Blane (Andrew McCarthy) much to the chagrin of her geeky best friend Duckie (Jon Cryer). But this wasn’t always the case.
In the original version of the film, Andie realized that Duckie was the one for her all along, and the two lived happily ever after. At least they did until test audiences saw the film. The original ending tested so poorly that the filmmakers were forced to reshoot the ending so Andie wound up with that one-percenter Blane. Pretty raw deal, Duckie, but we’ve got you covered. In honor of Pretty in Pink, on today’s episode of The Dan Cave, we’re taking a look at TK of the greatest, weirdest, and wildest alternate movie endings that you wish you saw.
