When your best friend is a Harry Potter fan, there’s only one thing you can do for her birthday: Throw a themed party! You don’t need to contact an owl rental company (yes, they exist) or find the perfect Hogwarts castle look-alike to host the shindig at; you only have to stretch your creative muscles. No wand necessary. Redditor Katie’s, a.k.a. SoButtons, best friend cast a transfiguration spell and used inexpensive, easy to replicate but effective touches to turn Katie’s home into a magical Harry Potter world.
Katie shared a gallery of photos on Imgur, and I’m admiring what her friend pulled together. It’s all about the details. There’s an Azkaban wanted poster with a cut-out perfect for party pictures, a cake decorated and spelled like the one Hagrid made for Harry in The Sorcerer’s Stone, and a pile of gold from Gringotts Wizarding Bank. Simple printed signs add some wizarding flair to the rooms. For example, the bottom of the staircase has a note that says “Mind the staircases. They like to change.” One room has a “Defense Against the Dark Arts” sign. The bathroom even has Moaning Myrtle taped to the toilet. I think that’s a requirement.
The party organizer added some magical touches by hanging several Hogwarts acceptance letters from the ceiling and even floating candles a la the Great Hall. You just need some fishing line and thumbtacks or tape to achieve the effect (EPBOT has a great floating candle tutorial). Why save all this charm for a party? No special occasion is necessary, and I’d consider leaving those Harry Potter decorations up all the time.

If any of you put together a party like this, please invite me. Pretty please?
