The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo was this weekend and The Windy City sure let its nerd flags fly. While C2E2 isn’t necessarily a convention that draws the numbers, announcements and panels on the scale of something like SDCC, the diehard fans of the Midwest and surrounding areas descend upon Chi-town with some incredible shows of cosplay. Chi-Cosplay if you will. As with any convention, there will always be your standard store-bought costumes, but make no mistake–Chicago definitely comes correct with some serious hand-made cosplay.
What was great to see is ReedPop’s commitment to being upfront about what they expect from convention attendees, displaying the “Cosplay is not consent” signs that some might remember from last year’s New York Comic-Con. The signs were displayed prominently throughout the convention floor and surrounding areas.
“Please keep your hands to yourself. If you would like to take a picture with or of another C2E2 Fan, always ask first and respect that person’s right to say no. When at C2E2, be respectful, be nice, be cool and be kind to each other.“
Maybe it’s Midwest hospitality or just nerds being good to one another, but it was an all-around great vibe and people sure did seem to take these words to heart. Way to go, Chicago, and thanks for another great C2E2!
Check out the gallery for some highlights from this weekend’s convention. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I think I’m torn between Rattrap from Transformers Beast Wars, the spot-on Janine from Ghostbusters and, rhe Elric Brothers from Full Metal Alchemist.
