“Talking Dead” With Chris Hardwick On AMC

It’s official: AMC will be launching a live after-show for The Walking Dead and our very own Chris Hardwick will be hosting it. Talking Dead will premiere on Sunday, October 16th, and… well, we can go to the press release for all the details, so here you go:

AMC announced today “Talking Dead,” the network’s first live after show that serves as a platform for discussion for AMC’s series, “The Walking Dead.” The half-hour episodes are produced by Michael Davies’ Embassy Row and are hosted by Chris Hardwick (Nerdist; G4). “Talking Dead” premieres immediately following the encore presentation of “The Walking Dead” on Sunday, October 16. Then beginning on Friday, November 4th the series premieres following “The Walking Dead”’s encore presentation at 11 pm EST.

“Talking Dead” features Hardwick spending time with fans, actors, producers and tv enthusiasts, recapping that most recent “Dead” episode, and taking questions and comments from viewers. Fans may continue to engage with the Aftershow following the on-air conclusion, online, at amctv.com for more conversations, questions and trivia.

“As an ENORMOUS fan of both ‘The Walking Dead’ comic and television show, I pretty much begged for this job. I’m fairly certain I slobbered on the phone while doing it. Dissecting the moves of Rick Grimes and the remaining survivors after every episode is something I would be doing with my friends anyway, so the fact that AMC is actually paying to do so is a bonus,” said Hardwick. “This half-hour after-show gives fans the opportunity to nerd out about the story in a very public forum: what they like, what they don’t like, or what questions they may have. Additionally, it will better inform viewers on making intelligent decisions when faced with the zombie apocalypse which will probably happen sooner or later.”

“Fans of ‘The Walking Dead’ are incredibly engaged with every aspect of the show. They tweet, blog, and post comments in very large numbers, and we wanted to give them an opportunity to interact with the show in a way that they don’t currently have – a kind of live water cooler,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s SVP of original programming, production and digital content. “And, we knew we needed a great host, and are thrilled to have Chris Hardwick on board. He is genuinely knowledgeable about the genre, and truly entertaining.”

Michael Davies is the executive producer of “Talking Dead” for Embassy Row. Jen Kelly will serve as co-executive producer.

So that’s pretty cool.

    Re: the 11/27 episode;
1.) Dude, you SERIOUSLY talked over Alice Cooper numerous times when he dialed in to the show. He is building a special guillotine just for you….
2.) Maybe it’s just me, but it was a bit weird how much you seemed to love the scene from Episode 1 where Rick shot the little walker girl in the head at the gas station. I’m pretty sure that was intended to be a disturbing scene, not one that inspires viewers to shotgun their beer.
    OK, rant over….

  8. I just love this show, the best says:

keep me posted on all things walking dead, and keep up the good work

  9. WHY DIDN’T THE SHERIFF SHOT ODIS IN THE HEAD AND KILL HIM SO HE WOULDN’T HAVE TO SUFFER?

  10. glen johnson says:

  12. Max Hinz says:

First, Love the Walking Dead TV series. Second, Chris Hardwick gets an (A+) for his enthusiasm, hosting and moderation abilities. Third, his guests, specfically on the 30 Oct 2011 show receive an (F) as one was a Hater (of fat people), one was simply an Idiot (drooling over a mans chest) and both condoned and rationalised the Murder of Otis, who really evolved into a nice and likeable guy, a “real” human being so to speak. Wosrt of all was the guest producer – she came across as Patronizing of the character “Otis” and her obvious smug and distainful remarks (easily recognised in her tone of voice and facial expression ) when she mentioned Otis ‘would be happy as he is now with his god, as she assume he was religious -which is another assumption as Otis was from the South. All three guests were Narcissistic and fall right in line with Hollywoods social agenda using its minions of Lemmings. ps: I am neither Fat, Southern, Religious nor a Lemming (ie: stupid) Again, Chris Hardwick does an excellent job. Here is a hint/suggestion – for the producers of “Talking Dead” and for all future guests: Keep your Hatred, Ego’s and Glib Social Comments in check and to yourself when on the show….it only makes the show a puppet that minics other left or right leaning variety, news or talk shows, and demeans your product overall and significantly lessens the enjoyment of watching the show.

  13. nichole says:

Same here I would like to know what happen to the other ppl from last year. And I think it is mean that thay leave the end of the show where they do can’t thay put ep (show) of the walking dead on every Monday to?

  14. i would like to see the man who saved the sherriff in the first season turn up with the little girl who got chased into the woods but it seems like hes out of the picture at the moment

  15. Darrell says:

wut happen’d 2 the other characters (the black guy & his son) frm season 1, (the crazy racist guy) frm season 1 & (all those old people) frm season 1. i need info………… i 4got they’re names, but im sure u knw who im talk’n about!

  16. david greider says:

During a zombie apocalypse if someone is slowing you down and jeopardizes your survival. They have to become bait.

  17. Shawn says:

I love this show but i would like to see a zombie die from a recketlouncher. And get a auto graph from a zombie or acter.

  18. Janet Weaver says:

I was offended by the comment of one of your guests who commented that Sofia was not a cute child. She is not only adorable, but beautiful inside and out. You owe her and her family an apoly
    .

  19. Diane says:

Now I have a valid excuse to buy the series on iTunes….wheeeeeeeee

    Congrats Chris!

  20. John Poison says:

I’m terribly excited about the season premiere of “The Walking Dead”, but now that Chris Hardwick is hosting an after-show, my excitement has reached catastrophic levels.

“Doctor Who” spots, a TV show, and now this? That Chris Hardwick kid is going places!

  21. 2WheelTimelord says:

They can start each show by talking about how much better the episode would have been if they hadn’t fired Frank Darbont…

  22. Claude Gaudette says:

The Space channel (Canada’s science fiction network) has a show called Inner Space that airs weeknights after some their more popular shows and the first segment or two is always devoted to an aftershow discussion of the preceding program. It’s cool to see that kind of idea catch on and a show like The Walking Dead is the perfect vehicle for it. Of course I can’t afford digital cable or satellite so I have to watch shows like TWD by “alternative” methods but I’ll certainly be looking out for Talking Dead now as well.

  23. Nate S says:

ANOTHER project? Good lord Chris, you should write a book about how you balance all these projects, and still have time to be awesome :3

  24. I was a basically echoing Cesar’s thoughts re: Confidential, but then I noticed the word LIVE. Sure you’ll probably get the little vignettes about effects and things but the chance to do live feedback is a rare treat these days. I will definitely be more encouraged to watch the original airing and not DVR if I can help it!

  25. @The_Nicktator says:

Nerdist and G4? I thought he was MTV’s Chris Hardwick. I keed, I keed. Looking forward to it Big C!

  26. Livius says:

    AWESOME.
Looking forward to another Chris Hardwick Show.

  27. Patrick says:

I agree with SlimCharles. I was not impressed at all with season one, but any more Big C action is good action.

  28. Gwif says:

I hope Jonah is going to be on this show too!?

  29. Deanna says:

Congratulations Chris! Can’t wait to see the show!

  30. Ollie Judge says:

I can’t wait for this. Just a bit disappointed with the name, there is already a podcast called the talking dead: http://www.talkingdeadpodcast.com/

  31. SlimCharles says:

I have the feeling that Talking Dead will be a lot better than Walking Dead. First season was biggest letdown since Lost finale

  32. Cesar says:

so its like Doctor Who Confidential, but for The Walking Dead
