This is so freaking nuts it doesn’t seem real, but it is–two
lunatics men in jetpacks flying in formation with the world’s largest passenger aircraft.
Emirates Air380 and the Jetman Dubai team came together to create this stunning/amazing/terrifying stunt that saw Yves Rossy and Vince Reffet fly next to the giant aircraft. The flight took place over the Dubai skyline and Palm Jumeirah, a manmade archipelago in the United Arab Emirates.
The Airbus flew at 4,000 feet above the ground, where it was then joined by the two “experienced pilots and operators of the smallest jet propelled wing,” who were dropped from a helicopter that was flying over the plane.
This might be one of those things that looks incredibly dangerous, but is actually somehow even scarier than that. On their website, the Jetman say that “while the formation flight looked effortless on film, painstaking planning and meticulous collaboration with an intense focus on safety drove all efforts.” Uh, yes, I would certainly imagine so.
This is breathtaking. Just watching these guys fly with four engines on their backs would be incredible on its own, but to synchronize their flight with an enormous airplane…I mean, it almost leaves you speechless.
