It’s been a long time since we learned about Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan: Ahsoka Tano, who made her Star Wars debut in the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film. Though many would argue Anakin was in no way ready for a Padawan, I think Ahsoka ended up being exactly what Anakin needed, and maybe even played a part in pulling him towards the light side in the end. They had an entertaining teacher-trainee relationship, but also a rich friendship, which is summarized in a emotional video debuted on io9. The footage shows what Anakin and Ahsoka were to each other, which you should check out before they meet again in the Star Wars Rebels season two finale.
Ah, remember the days when they called each other Snips and Skyguy? They both grew up and dropped those nicknames as they started to learn from and respect each other, but their relationship always had an element of playfulness—almost like they were siblings. Like the retrospective points out, Anakin wasn’t necessarily a conventional Master, but he did teach Ahsoka a thing or two. I’d guess that one of the hardest parts about her decision to leave the Jedi Order at the end of season five of The Clone Wars was walking away from Anakin.
And now, Ahsoka knows what Anakin has become. She learned the truth in a recent episode of Star Wars Rebels. As the end of the video teases, she and Darth Vader will be encountering each other for the first time since Anakin fell to the Dark Side. Vader probably isn’t going to be thrilled about having a reminder of his old life around—he learned about the presence of his former apprentice earlier in season two of Rebels. Maybe he’ll try to get Ahsoka to join him, but since I can’t imagine a world where she would agree to do so, I’m worried we’re going to see Ahsoka’s end. But maybe not. Star Wars is about hope after all.
The two-part Star Wars Rebels finale will air on Wednesday, March 30, and I am so not ready.
What do you think will happen when Ahsoka confronts Darth Vader? Tell me your theories (even if they’re painful ones) in the comments or on Twitter.
