It should come as no surprise that Marvel Studios has lined up Stan Lee‘s next four cameo appearances. After all, he’s appeared in the first 13 of the films that comprise the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But apparently, Marvel filmed all of Lee’s upcoming cameos in a single day!
Via CinemaBlend, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige attended a Captain America: Civil War screening in Los Angeles where he was asked if Lee’s cameos were random scenes or planned in advance. “We do not shoot random ones,” replied Feige. “They’re always very specific… A couple of months ago in Atlanta, [Lee] flew down and we shot four in one day — for four various projects. They’re all awesome! They’re all totally different. And he was unbelievable. He was on fire. He came in, he sat here, he stood there, he stood in this window, and then he went home.”
Considering the key role that Lee played in the Spider-Man and Doctor Strange comics, it seems likely that two of those cameos were for Spider-Man: Homecoming and the Doctor Strange film. Thor: Ragnarok is also a strong contender for the third cameo, but the fourth one is harder to pin down. Although Lee didn’t create the Guardians of the Galaxy, he had a small cameo in that film. So that means that director James Gunn may have once again found a place to put Lee in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But given Lee’s advanced age, it’s also possible that he filmed his scenes for Avengers: Infinity War and the currently untitled fourth Avengers movie that is being shot back-to-back with Infinity War.
It’s a downer to think about, but Lee won’t be able to film these cameos forever. He’s 93 years old and one of the last living legends in comics. Lee has recently been cutting back on his travel schedule, and next month’s New York Comic Con has been announced as his final appearance at that show.
