Space Shuttle Launch Time Lapse

A couple of Canon EOS 5D Mark IIs cameras, six weeks, and a hundred hours of footage = AMAZINGNESS. It’s hard to watch when they hoist it up with cables and not think, “Oh yeah, they’re gonna drop that.”

If you’re lucky enough to get the quick ad at the beginning extolling the virtues of Arkansas, just pretend that it’s the place the shuttle is going. Like you have to take a spacecraft to get to it or something. I lived in Jonesboro for a time when I was a kid, and believe me when I tell you that pretending that it’s extraterrestrial not only explains a lot but also helps make that place a little less, well, Arkansas-y.

That is awesome! It’s like getting to see how a concert gets setup or having a backstage pass to a cool show, only with rocket science. I’d love to go see the building where they assembled the rocket — it has to be huge! The folks that made this one need to make more of these!

    Thanks for posting this, Chris!

I saw the last launch in person, purely by luck. I was not very close, but it lit up the whole ocean at 4:30AM; amazing stuff.

I’ve always wanted to see a takeoff in person. I’d drive to Texas to see one, but I’d also like to try to get closer than three miles away. Thanks for the great vid post.

I watched it while playing Gary Joules “Mad World ” on Pandora in the background. It almost made me cry nerd-tears.

As awesome as that is, imagine how nicely it would’ve worked with the theme music of the Benny Hill show.
